Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver & pSX 1.8
« Thread Started on Aug 17, 2006, 9:45am »

Bios: scph1001
pSX: v1.8
Both versions SLES 01301 and SLUS 00708 works.

The only problem I encountered in them were that you can't watch videos. The eidos intro as well as the other intros and videos in the game have to be skipped. If you start the game pressing start immediately. You can skip the videos/intros, and you can play the game.

Just thought, I'd input that, as you still have it listed as not working or working on v1.5 (which has this same problem).

What exactly happens with the videos if you don't skip them?

Does everything go black and only play sound, does the emu crash or freeze?

The emu freeze if you don't skip the video.
But I encountered another problem, not far from the game start, when Raziel see the Sluags for the first time the game enter a loop and you can watch them feeding and walking faor a very long time ... (NB : I run the game from the original CD, not an image)

Well, I just searched my attic to find the game, so now I can verify this. My disc is euro version, but the freeze happens in it too. Basically, the mdec starts playing, and freeze after few seconds, but the sound continues playing. If you wait for the sound to play, it will continue play other mdec streams after that (like in Ghost in the Shell).

However, -r switch fixes this video freeze atleast in the euro version. So give it a shot.

pSX1.8, scph1001
win xp, sp2

Yep, I just tried it. It works for the SLUS 00708 as well. So its pretty safe to say that they work pretty much perfectly under -r.

Does the gameplay suffer from any kind of problems? I don't have the time to play it unfortunately (awesome game) so I was wondering if the compatibility lists "Minor sound & graphics glitches" are history?

From when I played, with the -r switch, there is nothign wrong iwth it. Sounds, grapics, buttons and such are all fine. I havne't beaten the game since thats hard with using a ketboard to play so I can't be absolutely certain but it should be perfectly fine.

Well, I took some time and played it about an hour or so. The -r switch reduces the change of mdec freeze, but apparently doesn't entirely remove the issue. As for the "minor sound & graphic glitches", I didn't see anything wrong graphically that didn't bounce/glitch/whatever when played on the real deal. However, there are still some sound glitches, seems to be XA related. It's most evident during longer speeches, presents itself as sudden skips in the stream, so to speak.

Also, I should mention that the log shows a lot of messages like "cuebin: read sector out of range (290412, max=290386)" The first number changes of course. Don't know if it's relevant, but I use ccd/img/sub, not cue/bin.

Anyway, the most important part is that the game is very playable despite these.
