Ok, I'm going to try to do this with as few spoilers as possible. As such, this is how I'm going to do it. I will have each listing with a TRIGGER followed by the BUG, followed by the SOLUTION. The TRIGGER tells you roughly when to start watching for the BUG (so as to have as few spoilers as possible).
BEFORE I get to that section, though, I have a few bugs that apply throughout the game, rather than just in certain places.
First and foremost...what is a "lockup"? A lockup is (as it pertains to Legend of Dragoon) a spot where the game does not lock up actually, but hangs in limbo. What happens is something is done such that the next phase of gameplay isn't triggered. Perhaps the next dialog box will never disappear, or the special background won't disappear. As a result, the game will not advance. Obviously, this is a big problem in that it instantly halts your advance and if you haven't saved in awhile and/or don't know it's coming, you have a problem This guide was created in the hopes that at least one person can avoid the grief I went through creating this.
NOTE: All bugs listed here have been experienced/tested by at LEAST me. I have beaten the game using an emulator, and have listed my troubles here, so nothing should be missing that's required to beat the game (no gurantees on non-essential things though!). Other people have confirmed some of the bugs as well. So, on with the guide!
To my knowledge, the only game-wide bugs deal with dragoons. Pretty much ANYTHING (in battle!) pertaining to dragoons is liable to lockup - the special, dragoon power-downs, dragoon magic, etc.
There are FOUR known ways to get around this. The obvious one, use a different emulator when you want to use dragoons. Painful, but it works. The second obvious one, don't use dragoons at all. The third, if you use quicksave/quickload, you can change the lockups SOMETIMES. For example, if you get a perfect dragoon addition then the game locks up, try NOT getting a perfect dragoon addition. It's not perfect - success rate is ~45-65%. Lastly, you can also play with the fast forward feature. Sometime this will let you bypass the lockups, sometimes not. Success rate ~20-40%, but with quicksave/quickload success rate can be as high as 75%, but overall it's more like ~30-50%.
TRIGGER: DISC TWO - You board the queen Fury and are playing as Albert.
BUG: If you go to talk to Meru, the game will lockup.
SOLUTION: Use PSXeven to talk to Meru (works out of the box, controller config aside - you can use keyboard though).
TRIGGER: END OF DISC TWO - When you go to kill the mosnter in the undersea cavern.
BUG: After the battle with Regole and Lenus, a scene plays out. The game will lockup
SOLUTION: Ugh...play the entire battle in ePSXe or another emulator. PSXeven does not work either. It will get you past the spot but fades to black at one point and never returns. ePSXe DOES work, however.
TRIGGER: MIDDLE TO END OF DISC 4 - After Coolon crashes.
BUG: When you get to the first stream (transport slipstream thingy), the game locks up. This is not apparent at first, but you won't be able to get past it, trust me.
SOLUTION: Ugh. Starting from the first save point after Coolon's crash, play the game in another emulator (PSXeven works!) until the next save point.
TRIGGER: END OF DISC 4 - After you defeat the guardian (Super Virage - kind of a spoiler, but I tried.)
BUG: Once you get to the fight with Zieg, Zieg will use dragoon magic that will lockup the game.
SOLUTION: Play the battle in another emulator, such as PSXeven.
TRIGGER: END OF GAME
BUG: Permanent black screen after the scenes after the wonderful movie. This may not be so in PSX, but I played the last battle in PSXeven for the dragoons (under lvl 40, completely owned last boss all thanks to dragoons. rose storm is incredibly )
SOLUTION: I'm not sure if there exists a bug after the movie in PSX or not, but the only real solution either way is to use another emulator. If somebody is brave enough to play the last battle using PSX and get completely through, please post to confirm or deny the bug in PSX. If this bug exists in PSX, don't use PSXeven. You can try ePSXe, although it's not been tested.
EDIT: Ok, a couple extra notes. First, I lied. NOW I beat the game Second, it's possible that there exist bugs other than these known (the chance is low, however). This is because some boss battles (and possibly other areas) I played using another emulator due to the dragoon bug (I love dragoons - beat the final boss using a total of 5 items I believe - and no healer...all due to 3 lvl5 dragoons ).
