Both these guides are based on the assumption that you know the basics of how to use the programs mentioned within. To explain the usage of all these programs would be quite lengthy, and beyond the initial scope of this guide (questions can be posted in here about specifics if necessary).
This is a guide for converting PS1 saves, PS3 -> PC.
All you'll need for this is:
- The PS3 format save you want to convert.
- A hex editor.
- A program like MemcardRex that can work with .mcs and .mcr saves.
Note that this is *NOT* for .psv save states used by pSX. This is strictly for PS3 virtual memory card files. I imagine this may not work for multi-slot saves, but I'll be looking into that soon to see what differences there may be.
1) Open the .psv save in a hex editor.
2) Block mark and delete the first 90 characters.
3) Overwrite the values in the first 10 addresses with 51 00 00 00 00 20 00 00 FF FF
4) At memory address 0x1E, insert 86 blocks containing 00 (hex).
5) At memory address 0x7F, an xor value is calculated from the 127 bytes before it. If you don't know how to find this value, just put anything, as MemcardRex and many other memory card editors will find and fix this value anyway. (Thanks to Shendo for pointing this out to me!)
6) Save as a .mcs file, then load into MemcardRex and save as a .mcr file.
This is a guide for converting PS1 saves, PC -> PS3.
For this, you'll need:
- The PC format save you want to convert.
- MemcardRex.
- A modded PSP with a USB cord.
- CWCheat (with Memory Card support).
- A PS1 game in PSP format.
- A PC format save for that PS1 game (we'll call it "dummy save").
- A PS3.
- A USB flash drive (I don't know if the PSP can act as a storage device for receiving PS3 saves without them being converted)(Also note that this is only needed if you intend to transfer the freshly converted save back to the computer again).
1) Open the dummy save in MemcardRex and make sure there's an open slot available (or as many slots as the save you want to convert is). Take note of the Game ID of the save belonging to the PS1 game on your PSP that you'll be using.
2) Load the save onto the memory card, then save the memory card as an ePSXe save (.mcr).
3) Rename the memory card to match the Game ID of the save noted earlier (the format needs to be "Sxxx_xxxxx-1.mcr", minus the quotes).
4) Plug in the PSP to the computer and enable the USB connection, then put the renamed save in the "mc" folder for CWCheat (which is in the "seplugins" folder).
5) Disable the USB and start up your PS1 game on it.
6) Before getting to any memory card screen, go into CWCheat's menu (hold Select for 3 seconds), and enter the Memory Card screen.
7) Press Right on the D-pad to select the "-1.mcr" save (which is yours), and hit X to load it (it should say "OK!" if loaded correctly).
8) Go back to the game and load your save normally, then save immediately (doesn't *have* to be immediate, but why would you want to start playing when you're halfway through this?), and quit the game after a successful save.
9) Plug your PSP into the PS3 and transfer the save you want converted onto the PS3 (it should be on the card labeled as the PS1 game you just used on the PSP). You'll have to create a virtual memory card to hold it if you don't have one created already, and upon transfer the PS3 will automatically convert it to PS3 format.
