 CEP: Gameshark Alternative for pSX
« Thread Started on Aug 14, 2006, 1:46am »

If you are searching for gamechater (gameshark like) for pSX then you should read this. This will help if you cannot get your hands on a gameshark cd. I was searching for a trainer (trainer = any cheating device such as gameshark) for pSX emulator a month ago. It was the missing module for pSX to be the best emulator for ps. So, I found a software called cep. What is special about it is that it is not specific to some emulators (meaning it can work with any emulator). So, I have tested it and it worked (just with small modifications). Actually, it does not need this modifications but I have modified it just for the ease of use. I have added a tutorial explaining how to use it with pSX emulator. Enjoy it:

The original links are apparently no longer reliable. Gamesoul Master has contributed the following link:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/12/12/501739/CEP.7z

The pSX emu is the best emulator out there but it needs more support and development. A built-in trainer should be added. I guess I can patch the pSX emulator to add a built-in trainer without the source code but it would be easier when the source code is available. Anyway, ch33rs for the cep and pSX emu developers and keep it up.

Do the codes have to be in raw format, or does it accept gameshark/pro action replay/etc. codes? I can't find anyplace where it'd say, but I'd assume they'd have to be in raw format, right?

I just got done testing it, and it works like a charm (I used gameshark codes for it). Thanks a million for bringing this to our attention. It'll certainly be useful to a lot of people until a possible built-in system is done with pSX.

You should rename this thread to something like "Gameshark Alternative for pSX" or something like that. There have been so many people asking about gameshark and other cheat devices for pSX, that I really think they should read this, but many of them might not connect "trainer" to "gameshark".

Hey, this actually works! Moved to the Help & Support section and stickied for the time being until/if pSX Author decides to add cheat support. Maybe it will decrease the amount of repeated requests for gameshark support. Thanks for the info th3c0r3, many people will be happy now :).

Do you have the authors permisson to distribute his application with your modifications?
Maybe a good idea to try and contact him and make sure it's ok.

I have preserved the developer rights of the program. I did not patch the program, I only modified some files (just to add support for pSX emu). I guess the developer would not mind, but it would not harm to ask though :).

I tried codes with Final Fantasy VII and the only ones that didn't work for me were codes that involved affecting a large number of memory addresses with very few actual lines of code (I can't remember what those kinds of codes are called, but are only usable with Gameshark v3 or higher... an example would be the code to have all items, which is only a few lines but affects (obviously) a very large list of items). I believe it's safe to say that it doesn't work with codes that are created to only work on the latest versions of the cheat devices. Joker command codes work, though, as long as they don't involve the newer features (I used a code to switch which sprite on the screen you're controlling by pushing various combinations of the shoulder buttons and Start, and it worked perfectly fine).

It's still better than any other option for cheating, as there *are* no other options besides having the actual cheat device.

Actually, I have to tell you something. For codes that do not work on a gameshark (or any similar trainer) hardware device will not work on the cep software. If you have games that do not work with some codes that means the codes (most of the time) are not right. Try another codes for the game. I can help you with the working codes if you wish :).

The codes that didn't work for me are codes that I've used with my Gameshark that I used to own before I lost it. So I know the codes were right. Also, some of them had the effects that they are said to have when used on an older version of Gameshark, so that pretty much finishes my point.

If you can make a code for Final Fantasy VII to get all items without having to make the code more than 4-6 lines long, then I will stand corrected ;)
