Hi everyone. This is my first pSX bug report, I hope I won't forget anything. :P
I encountered a problem while playing the first CD of Final Fantasy IX. I verified this problem with two versions of the game: SLUS 01251 and SLES 02968. The bug is triggered by both pSX v1.8 and v1.7 but is not present in v1.4 (I tried US version only, of course).
Here's what happens: in the game, the princess has been kidnapped by a creature in the Evil Forest. I find a monster-free area with a spring and a Kupo, when an ATE pops up. The ATE is titled "Do what I say, not what I do", and plays normally. The game then tries to get back to the main course of events, but hangs. I can hear the "new" music background but the screen il black. The game doesn't respond to the controller.
Let me know if you need other infos. Thanks!

We need the name of the BIOS you're using. Second, how are you playing the game (original CD, mounted image, or directly loading the image)? Are you using memory card saves or savestates? Are you using any special settings? Oh, and have you tried the -r switch to get past the part (probably won't help, but always good to try)?
Other than that, I just recently started a new file in the game, so I'll play it tonight and do my best to get to that part and see if I can replicate the problem.

I'm using an SCPH1001. Both versions are images (a BIN/CUE and a CCD/IMG). I can reproduce the bug by both loading from a savestate and from a memory card. No special settings, as far as I can remember. I didn't know about the -r switch and I cannot test it right now. Will try as soon as possible. I can confirm that the game does work on pSX v1.6, though. Hope this helps.

I can confirm that the game does work on pSX v1.6, though. It's "normal"...

R4Zi3L: I'm not quite sure what you're getting at with that statement. Testing hasn't been done since v1.6, and I think it was a really idea thing to mention that upon finding this bug, it indeed didn't appear in v1.6 (as if to say, it wasn't something that the tester at the time had missed or something). icemaze: The only other thing I could ask is... could you try testing this with the v1.9 WIP? Otherwise, thank you for giving that information, as I think if I can replicate this bug, it'll be quite helpful to pSX Author for finding and fixing the bug (if v1.9 doesn't have it fixed already).

Ok, I can do that. Can you please point me to the site where WIP releases are found? Google is not my friend today, and the pSX home page doesn't help either... :/
Thanks!

I mean... FFIX is copy protected... sub-channels and stuff... well... but not US version i guess...

icemaze: Here is the link to directly download the v1.9 WIP build. It's never posted on the emulator's main site, but rather posted on these forums by pSX Author when he decides to release one for testing.

Ok, here's the news:
@gamesoul_master: I tried both the event rescheduling switch (-r) and WIP. No luck.
@smegforbrain: yes, I have a memory card with a convenient game save. Since I see attachments are not allowed on this forum, I suppose you should give me an ftp to upload to?

Error confirmed, using pSX v1.8, SCPH1001.bin, SLUS-01294, playing the game from the original game disc. This error occurred at the same time (an otherwise error-free experience all-together): "dserr 80070057". I will continue testing to see if I can get around it, but the music indeed continues with no input accepted from the user.
Edit: I ran a test using the technique I mentioned to get around some copy-protected games (using a PAL BIOS for US games), and hey! It played through the ATE and continued to play correctly afterwards. So to anybody who ends up having trouble with freezing in this game, try switching the BIOS to PAL instead of US.

I had this error using the original NA version and got around it loading a save from right near it and replaying that part. It may have even been a save state but I don't remember. I know I used fastforwarding the second time though.
There is also an error when escaping from Alexandria in disc 2 and can be gotten around similarly. I posted a regular save and a save state here for that here a month or so ago.
The only other glitch I had was with animations freezing in the middle. Lots of spells do this. Valk Profile which I just played also does this a lot.

crazylegsryan, I cannot find such a post (not an accusation, just can't seem to find it with the search stuff). Which version of the game did you find this disc 2 error? Could you post the save game again? Memcard is preferred, if you've got it, as it's a much smaller file. We also need somebody to check out the PAL version of FF9 using a PAL bios for these problems.
