Hello all, I've recently decided to hunt down some sort of PSX cheat device I can make an ISO of that is compatible with gameshark codes. The problem is, after searching in the forums and elsewhere online, I've found that certain versions of Gameshark/Action Replay/etc. will not work with this emulator for various reasons.
So here's my question:
Before I ebay it up and purchase multiple versions of devices, can anyone from personal experience confirm a cheat device that one can input gameshark codes into successfully with the PSX emulator?
Thanks in advance.
Oh, and if this belongs somewhere else, my apologies, I wasn't entirely sure where to start this thread.

Gah... that's not too great of an alternative though. At least not until it's better figured out what kind of codes it doesn't accept (since I should note before the OP has to scan that whole thread... not all Gameshark/Pro Action Replay/Caetla codes work with it). And I need to figure out a more universal/working method for it to work for everybody and with any version of pSX. I've been letting myself get too busy lately with other things, so I haven't gotten that worked out yet.
As for my own input, I have none. If I knew where my CDX Gameshark was, I'd test that. As things are, I *don't* know where it is. Though I do intend to find/buy that PS2 Gameshark that comes with the PS1 disc (which, seems near impossible to find on eBay, not to mention the fact that people drop 2 or 3 different names for it, making it hard to search without knowing what it even looks like). If I do somehow find one though, I'll be for sure reporting my results with it.

I don't know, GM, the OP looks like he's keen enough on this to read through the thread, long though it may be - and, whether it solves his problems or not, he should find some useful information there.

Thanks guys.
I probably should have mentioned I knew about that thread already. It's something I'm going to try soon enough, but I also want to buy my own personal gameshark for various reasons.
I wouldn't mind buying a few and testing them out, my main issue is it's so difficult to tell which cheat devices require some form of a memory card plug-in to work. The information detailing them very rarely mentions that.
Well, hey, when I go on a buying binge I suppose I could post up my results here.
Thanks again for the help/suggestions.

Well, the CDX Gameshark requires the memory card thing that comes with it, but ya know... If I find it (and my DexDrive), I wanna try plugging it into the computer to see what it is. I'm almost willing to bet that, considering it merely stores the codes you enter, it might very well be simply a memory card that is formatted differently than the ones you save onto. In any event, I'll search around and see if it's possible to create a "memory card" usable in an emulator that can work with the CDX Gameshark. Upon looking around, the Gameshark Lite seems promising. It is simply a disc containing the codes, and it uses a standard Playstation memory card to implement the codes. It seems to be available in many places, and I found a person on eBay selling it, here. If you wanna try a couple cheating devices with pSX, this one would be the first one to try. He has quite a few of them, and at least three of them (one ending in just over 8 hours) seem to have a $0.01 bid on them ($4.95 is the buy-out, with the same price for shipping from what I saw). But yeah, unless somebody here has a better suggestion on what to try first, I recommend this one. And if it works, then we'll at least know for sure of one device that works (and, as it seems, a place to get them... I saw 10 on this guy's list, and there are probably more elsewhere on eBay).

Thanks, I'll definitely try that. It looks very promising. I can't figure out in what ways it's limited, though, can it still run custom codes?
I did a search and the information I found was vague: Via a memory card, you can add codes found at the gameshark website and in magazines--so I'm assuming any gameshark code would work? Am I wrong?
Thanks again, though, I missed that in my first round of searching--or my eyes glazed over at the "lite" title, heh.

BLAZE Pro Media Pack XPLODER V4. From the Cover:-
Pre-Loaded with over 36000 cheats for over 2000 of the latest & greatest games. The only cheat system compatible with Xploder, Equalizer, Action Replay & GameShark cheat codes.
I bought this for the princely sum of £1 from Poundland (UK cheapskate store) over a year ago, came in a double DVD case along with a CD cleaning disc - probably an end of line clearance.
Works a treat with pSX. Admittedly I've only used it with the pre-loaded cheats though (it's got loads of cheats pre-loaded for UK, German & USA games).
Distributed in the US by 'Fire International Inc'.

Interesting, pugsy. I'm not into cheats really, but if it's only a knicker from Poundland, it's got to be worth trying - if they still have it. Anyway, what do you mean, cheapskate? Round where I live, in Woolwich, Poundland is high class... I guess that tells you more about the rest of the shops than anything else...

That sounds like Myer over here - it's known as a rich people's store, but you can get bargains there. I originally bought Tekken 4 there (before it was known to "officially suck" by the community) for about A$20 less than the game shops!

No, Heihachi_73, Poundland just sells reams of end-of-line stuff etc for a pound each. Definitely _not_ a rich people's store - except that rich people are generally the meanest ones you'll ever meet and probably do shop at Poundland... My reference to being 'high-class' was strictly in terms of Woolwich...

Hey, Any updates regarding the GAmeshark Lite working on PSX? Hehe. I have one, actually, gameshark lite. It's preloaded with over a hundred thousand codes. But i was abble to use it last only on my PS1 console. So far, cant get it to work on PSX. It displays the screen after the "diamond SONY" screen, which is the "PS" screen, then it just hangs, screen just stays black. Ive tried several differetn bios, scph1001,1000, 7501, 7502, 5000, 3000, etc. So, any ideas? Suggetions? Working cheat machine? Thanks.

jackofisabela: Hmm... could you possibly try a few more "02" BIOS images... like DTHL3002.bin or SCPH1002.bin? The japanese BIOS images are useless to try, but trying a valid PAL BIOS might have some merit, and since you only list one (and a crappy one at that... XD), it might very well be that it's not really a PAL BIOS. And possibly... maybe you could try making an image of it (definitely not a bin/cue image, as that would probably not work well with a GameShark disc at all) and see if that works. Edit: AHA! So, I just got my hands on my friend's v5 Gameshark for the PS1. It's a bit scratched, but I was able to successfully rip an image from it. And... it works! It actually works on pSX. Oddly enough... when I tried running the game from the disc itself... it froze after the BIOS opening screen. To be honest... I'm not all that concerned about it, since the image works just fine. Maybe my disc drive is having problems reading the data regularly... I went with CloneCD to extract the image, because I kept hearing about how good it is with extracting images from "less than perfect condition" games.
Boy, does he cherish this thing too. He's only letting me borrow it for a day... LOL. He seems afraid that if I have it much longer, it'll get lost or damaged or something... or he's just paranoid.

@gm: how does it work if you burn your image to a CD?
