Anyway, you're really going to have some work to do -- i.e., if you guys are still planning to keep the compatibility lists updated... I looked over the list: 3.5 pages or so of new/updated threads for me to check. So, it could be worse. And yes, I plan to get it updated as soon as I can, I just need to get back into the swing of things from my vacation.

All kudos to speedfreak for his tests, but I personally don't trust these results 100%. I mean, how can you possibly test anything very thoroughly with the speed he pushes new results out.

Yeah. I mean, of course if there is a big problem in the beginning, it's very fast to test and report it, but results like 'perfect no problems so far' are the ones I'm sceptical about.

Results are always going to be open to interpretation at best.
Honestly, while I'd love to have every game tested in full, from beginning to end, it's an impossible task because the games would need to be tested in full for each version.
Does speedfreak do enough testing for each game? I dunno. I find his results curious at times, because he occassionally gets batches of games where an error occurs again and again with different games, but unless I test them myself, who can say?
That, and we sometimes have folks coming up with errors that other testers did not get. Which is why I leave a lot of room on the compatibility list for interpretation of results, and I try to not discount anything anybody reports.
There are certain things that can be tested for in every game, and a good 15-30 minute test should be done to try and hit as many things as possible (such as movies, testing audio, menus, ability to save the game, etc), but even that won't catch everything.
So, it's the best we can do at this point.

I always make sure to test as thoroughly as possible, and if I don't complete the game, I specifically say, when possible, how far into the game I got. I don't like to claim that a game is 100% working if I haven't 100% played it, so that's why I find it best to say how far I got. Also, I of course mention any special settings I had to use, and any minor things that I notice aren't like playing on the original Playstation (hence I make sure I've played the game on the real Playstation first).
For someone like speedfreak, even if 1 out of 10 of his reports are wrong, that leaves 9 out of 10 correct, and it's pretty certain that someone will notice that 1 out of 10 pretty quick (although I've seen exceptions to that concept). Simply said, it's a lot better than nothing.
When I can, I try to verify his results... but I don't have that many PAL games, as they are usually more expensive and more likely to be copy-protected.

Yeah. I mean, of course if there is a big problem in the beginning, it's very fast to test and report it, but results like 'perfect no problems so far' are the ones I'm sceptical about. i get through the first couple of levels or play about 15 -30 mins on other games that dont have levels ok i won't put perfect i will just put no problems so far all my games that i have tested i have dumped myself and have no errors and i am not a person who downloads ps games off the net as you don't know if the person who dumped them if the game had errors or not

That's cool, speedfreak - keep up the good work (in fact, how the h*ll do you do it? )! However, I noticed that in one of your threads, someone asked you if you were using a saved game or a save state in a particular game, and your reply suggested you hadn't used either. There do seem to have been quite a few posts recently around problems people have had with saving games - do you think it would be a good idea to check that you can save and load Ok in the games you try? It would certainly be useful information.

and another problem is people don't mention if they have dumped the game themself or download it off the net as smegforbrain mentioned that is why some people are coming up with errors while other people are not

I'm just a sceptic so don't mind me. But since we are still on the subject, does anyone of you have a working PSX to compare the games to, or maybe you compare to ePSXe, or maybe it's just a "it doesn't freeze so it works" test? Like say, for example, if I hadn't played Vagrant Story on the real console, I wouldn't know that there are some sound glitches in it when played with pSX. I guess what I'm asking is, how do the lot of you determine what is working and what is not? Outside of the obvious crashes and freezes of course. ;D

I've started doing just that, Herra (see a comment I've just made on playing my FF VIII game in the copy protection thread). Unfortunately, a lot of my games, and more than half of the ones I play regularly, are NTSC and, of course, I have an unchipped PAL Playstation.
I really started doing it so I could compare the video and audio with pSX, as I have my Playstation running directly to video/audio inputs in my PC, so I'm running both through substantially the same kit, which is also higher quality than any TV I've ever had. pSX scores considerably better than the Playstation on video, generally - certainly as long as it's playing the image correctly, which it has on everything I've been able to compare - but the Playstation scores better for sound.
And speedfreak does say

And as I said before, I make sure I've played the game on a real PSX *before* I start testing it on pSX (and usually only games that I like and have played through completely at least once on the original hardware). This isn't too hard, considering I own a Playstation, and all the games that I test (either for compatibility or to help someone with a problem) are either ones that I own or borrow from one of my friends (it's nice having retro-gamers for friends). I don't even like using images that one of my friends made, because as much as I'd like to trust that my friends know what they're doing, I'm way too paranoid and skeptical to think they're extracting it exactly right, as I know I can.
