Hello,
I am now starting to work on translations for pSX. I would like volunteers for each language. Please only apply if you think you have a good enough technical knowledge of english and the target language (enough to be able to translate all of the terms used in pSX properly). The initial process may involve several iterations, so please be prepared for this (it shouldn't take too much of your time though).
Please apply in this thread and I will get in contact with you via email soon (if your email address is not the same as the one in your account please PM me the correct one - I promise not to give it out to anyone).
I already have translators for:
Dutch (he is an ex-pat though and may not know all of the proper technical terms that someone using dutch software every day would know - it may be useful to have a back up).
Arabic
Spanish (the guy is a south american - I'd be interested to know if we would need per-region spanish transations as I understand the language varies a fair amount from country to country).
Most wanted:
Chinese (I'm mainly looking for simplified, but traditional would be good too)
Japanese
Thanks!
btw: eventually I will require you to translate the readme.txt file too, but for now I will mainly be working on pSX itself (I want to tidy readme.txt up a bit first and add some missing stuff).

I have sent out the first draft of the string database to the people above - please let me know if you don't get it. Please continue to volunteer for translations though

I call English! ;D In all seriousness, though, what's the plan for the translation, is it going to be built in, or released as a separate file, or something else I haven't thought of?

Dutch (he is an ex-pat though and may not know all of the proper technical terms that someone using dutch software every day would know - it may be useful to have a back up). I'm an expath too, but I 'only' lived in the US for 4 years. I've been a programmer for several years and I also work on other emulation projects. You can consider me being a back up mail me at vampiermsx (a) gmail [dot.] com

A quick question.
Any character amount limits anywhere? I've noticed that sometimes when translating it can be hard to come up with a sensible and short terms for some things (in general, haven't touched the pSX files yet). For example, how many characters do the configuration tabs hold?

I've noticed that sometimes when translating it can be hard to come up with a sensible and short terms for some things (in general, haven't touched the pSX files yet). For example, how many characters do the configuration tabs hold? There are no limits at the moment. I plan to edit the dialogs so that they fit the strings for all languages. Obviously try to keep the strings as short as possible, but I'm expecting some languages to have much longer strings than english (german is usually the worst in my experience - unfortunately we don't have a translator for german yet)

i can do chinese(simplified) translation, I saw your post on emu-zone, wanting a chinese translator. I grow up in china, so I'm pretty good at chinese, but I also lived here in US for 5-6 yrs already, so I think i can do a pretty decent translation for pSX.
let me know what you think, my email = toby (at) devils (dot) com

The spanish language is the same in every latin american country but it has a few differences between them about some words that in one country means one thing and in another country means another thing.

If she doesn't want to do it for any reason though I will bear you in mind (I will also try to remember to send you the WIP version when it is ready for testing). Thanks, pSX Author
