I fear the karma system has been a major distraction for a certain someone, so much so that he is unable to stop abusing it. Day in, day out, he logs in just to lower target user's karma points, without contributing anything to the forums. A nuisance, to say the least. To help the user get back on his feet, I've decided to disable the system. No more.

Wow, we had somebody doing that?
I swear, stupid people never cease to find new ways to amaze me.

IMO the karma system is a ridiculous idea to begin with anyway.
What is it good for?

Honestly, I don't know either at this point I left it there in hopes that it might actually be used properly (for differentiating between the spammers/trolls and people who actually contribute). Clearly, that's been proven to not be the case. Oh well. @smegforbrain: lol yeah ;D Most specifically, patrickp and Gamesoul Master were the main targets.

You could always ban delinquent members. Especially those who don't contructively contribute to the forum and cause problems with the rest of the community.

When I first saw the karma thing I thought it could be of use, just the way Ultima described. But the system had this sa(i)d weakness: having to accept people's judgements as fair judgements (or else administrators would have to "correct" it regularly). Anyway... Won't you miss that 5000 mark around your post count, TheCloudOfSmoke...? Hehe...

I think karma systems tend to work in one of two ways. Either people don't bother to use it much (as they don't here) and it doesn't represent very much of anything, except when some unhappy person tries to make a point with it - bit of a waste of time, really. Or, it gets used a lot, the users tend to form cliques centred around bunceing up each other's points, and you get people chasing after karma points at the drop of a post. I don't like either of them. I'm very pleased to see that the karma system has been disabled and we will all get reincarnated equal...

Won't you miss that 5000 mark around your post count, TheCloudOfSmoke...? Hehe... Meh, who needs it? I never really payed attention to it anyways. Like I said in another thread, I just used it to see how others view other members but I never use it to make my own judgement on a person until I can see how the person is myself. As you can see, the karma system can't accurately represent a person on these boards when the system is being abused. I was looking foward to that 5000 mark , but hey, what can you do ? Or, it gets used a lot, the users tend to form cliques centred around bunceing up each other's points, and you get people chasing after karma points at the drop of a post. I don't like either of them. I'm very pleased to see that the karma system has been disabled and we will all get reincarnated equal... Now since karma clicks are out of the picture, what about the post count clicks ?

Well, speaking as a defrocked deity, at least post counts are more representative of someone's contribution to the forum, TheCloud - not completely representative, of course, since it's no indication of the value of the posts, but it does indicate how much of a life members have...

Hey hey, what's that supposed to mean? That I've no life? xD TheCloudOfSmoke: Banning's always an option, but I let it slide because seriously, you can't really consider the abuse of a system that lends itself to abuse to be major rule breakage. Plus, the perpetrator did contribute to the forums before, so all this makes me do is watch more carefully how he contributes to the forums.

Just kidding patrickp ;D. You, GM, Ultima, are very good, productive contributing members here and we are really thankful to have such helpful members. Without y'all, who would help us with our never ending streams of questions? But you have to admit that it can lead to another type of click oriented group. Like a while back I remember hearing a few members discussing who was going to reach their 1000 post first. EDIT: Ultima: Yeah, well I guess there's nothing he can do now to attack someone unless he does it publicly but if that were ever to happen, it could lead to a flame war and possibly a ban and I wouldn't want to see that happen. So hopefully for now, this will alleviate the problem and no other issues should arrise (hopefully).

I refuse to get into a war with him. If he starts on me, I will simply send a message to one of the admins to bring it to their immediate attention.
1000 posts... come on, TCOM... you know we were only joking about that. And thank you for your kind words. Like I've said before... it's truly a pleasure to be able to contribute here... being able to help people get as much joy out of this emulator as I have/do, amongst anything else I can do to contribute. And although the karma system didn't really mean too much, I'm glad to see it gone. One less problem to worry about...

Hooray. About time too. Karma system with no proper limitations is just waiting to be abused, as was evident right here. So, good call.

Hey hey, what's that supposed to mean? That I've no life? xD Now, would I imply that, Ultima? Not to mention that my own post count is fairly high... Just kidding patrickp ;D. You, GM, Ultima, are very good, productive contributing members here and we are really thankful to have such helpful members. Without y'all, who would help us with our never ending streams of questions? Ah, flattery will get you everywhere, Mr TheCloud, sir! Not to mention the night I was deified... we won't do it again, honest! Not 'till next time, anyway! GM is catching up, though; he'll probably be first through the 1000 post mark and any thread hijacks/unnecessary posting on that occasion will be _entirely_ his responsibility...! I refuse to get into a war with him. If he starts on me, I will simply send a message to one of the admins to bring it to their immediate attention. Don't think it's even worth notifying the admins, GM - Ultima's on the ball, and we'll look so much more noble if we just suffer silently (Silently? Us?) and let Ultima whop 'im. Besides, we can always put a few surreptitious kicks in once he's down...
