I have uploaded a new Windows WIP build that may fix the pad config issues that some people have (pressing a button/stick fills in all controls the same). Also this build should work with DEP turned on. psxemulator.gazaxian.com/psxfin_wip.rar

I wasn't having any problems with oversensitivity in the Controllers configuration tab, but I was getting considerable oversensitivity in menus in some games - that's still there. You also seem to have killed the Escape key, pSX Author!

Oops - I'll look into the escape key...
There should not be any changes in the way pads actuall work in games - its just for the pad config dialog.

Ok I download it. I will test this on Vista and see how it behave on it.

This is great, I no longer have to 'tip-toe' through the pad configurator. Perfect.
Thanks pSX author.

It lets me configure my controller properly (a SmartJoy Dual Plus) but the emulator then invariably crashes after I load a game (usually within minutes, sometimes within seconds).

Does it save a crashdump? Or print any messages?

bobling, does the emulator only crash after you've configured your controller? In that case, I'd suggest configuring the controller and exiting the emulator; then starting it again. A bit of an inconvenience when you need to change the controller type, but otherwise should work Ok.

It freezes without any message and if the game has background music playing it repeats the same couple of notes it is on repeatedly. I then have to close the emulator from the task manager.
I tried exiting the emulator after configuring the controller but it didn't make any difference, nor did it make any difference whether I used (and configured) the controller in digital or analogue mode.

You're being very unclear here, bobling.
When you say do you mean that you could exit Ok after configuring the controller, but the emulator crashed after starting up again or that you couldn't exit without it crashing?
What happens if you open the emulator and go to play a game without having configured a controller? Because it sounds to me from what you seem to be saying that the crash actually has nothing to do with configuring the controller, but would have happened anyway.
In addition, you should have read the 'Things to Remember when Posting Reports' post prominently linked above before posting.
Edit: just a thought - what happens with the regular v1.10 release of pSX? Does that crash?

I found that having the controller set to 'normal pad' stops the crashes. Though that means I'm unable to use the analog stick properly.
I tried it extensively with two games: Star Ocean 2 (the PAL version SCES_02159), and Chrono Cross (the US version SLUS_010.41) and both freeze.
I tried a normal controller, an analog controller, and a dualshock controller and in all cases was able to configure the pad properly. I also tried three types of controller adaptor and several different drivers on 2 different PCs (Smart Joy Dual Plus, Super Joy Box 3, and another unbranded one I don't know the make of, both PCs were using Windows XP). No matter which type of controller I used if I had the controller configuration set to normal pad the game didn't crash and worked properly. If I had it set to analog+rumble the game loaded but wouldn't recognize any input from either the controller or keyboard. If it was set to dual shock the game loaded but froze after a random number of minutes (usually between 1 and 5).
I tried both disc image and from the original disc in both cases without it making a difference.
The former. I can configure the controller, quit the emulator and reload it. The emulator still freezes.

It could be a bug in the pad driver to do with rumble... can you see if it still happens in dualshock mode but with rumble disabled (untick the rumble tickbox at the bottom of the pad config dialog).

Good news. Disabling the rumble in the controller config does seem to stop crashes (none in the last 20 minutes anyhow). Thanks.

Okay, well that indicates that its probably a buggy driver - try to upgrade if you can.... pSX doesn't do anything unusual with regards to rumble (it just uses DirectInput), so I can't really see how it could be a bug.
