Thread necromancy is cool, as long as it's not just "oo oh em gee bump ehhehehe" And yeah, I'm the one who said that threads couldn't be merged, and it's (unfortunately) still true (and yes, as boring as you say it would be xD).

Necromancy is all well and good as long as the post stands on it's own. I always find it silly when someone specifically replies to a post that was made almost a year ago, to give advice or whatever.

got a super fast computer of frame skipping and turn it on if you got slower pc and make sure your pc processes is not too busy with virus scanning and etc scanning.

Actually, even if I do get slowdowns with pSX, I prefer not enabling Frame skipping, monkey80. It seems to get very jerky with Frame skipping on; I prefer slow but smooth.

You probably wouldn't say this if the framerate goes down to.. let's say 20fps and the music and soundeffects begin to stutter. Happened to me while playing the gear-battles in Xenogears (turn-based ones) ... even though I never had any slowdowns in any other game at all. okay, that's offtopic as well, but...

You're probably referring to a well-known issue with Xenogears (now fixed), kiru, whereby it played fine from a CD or mounted image, but developed all sorts of problems when played directly from an image. For some versions of pSX, it's also required the -r switch to play properly.
It's been fine though, in the last few versions of the emulator, and plays quite satisfactorily directly from an image now.

Well, I do know about this issue and I can guarantee you that it had nothing to do with this slowdown. Probably win xp, 256mb ram and 64mb ati radeon 9000 explain everything Well, thanks anyway and we better stop this now or an admin might get angry or something *g

So in what version of pSX were you getting this slowdown with Xenogears, kiru? FWIW, unless you have a very slow processor, you shouldn't be getting a slowdown in that game on the current version of pSX with that spec.
More likely to be a system problem (videocard and chipset drivers drivers not properly installed?) or something resource intensive running in the background.

hmm I'm currently playing FFVIII and I haven't encountered any stuttering/slowing of the game of any kind or if there was it was barely noticable. Maybe its a hardware related? maybe?

Sorry for the bump, but I wanted to add an issue with lighting. When you enter certain portions of the world map, the lighting gets really bright. In some areas, it gets somewhat darker than normal. This seems to depend on the coloring. Like if you're around a snowfield or desert, then it gets bright.
Not a big issue, but I thought I would mention it.
I can also confirm some lag. There is a bit of slowdown when loading large battle animations, or entering areas with several events and objects being loaded into memory. It's barely noticable. There's also a little bit of sound inaccuracy on some of the channels. I'm not sure which channels specifically, but it's a noticable difference from real PSX hardware. (and also from emulated sound in PSF players)
Hope this helps.

My very first post on this msg board, I started using pSX instead of ePSXe not so long ago (say, about two weeks) and I was overwhelmed with joy ePSXe had issues with a number of games (such as slowdowns and lags) whereas pSX allows me to re-create my PSX on my computer (there's no room in here for yet another system...). To get to the point of thread necromancy, I'm grateful you dug this one up as I just bumped into the "Lunar Cry" bug and was relieved to see that the issue is indeed a well-known one... I'll try again and again. Maybe switching to ePSXe for this particular sequence would do the trick. I also noticed that when a battle triggers on the world map, the battle swirl (or fading or whatever - being French I sometimes fight with technicalities) is somewhat glitchy, some kind of texture merging... yup, ugly. It never happens on the field (like in a dungeon), though.
