When fighting the first boss battle in Suikoden 2 (SLUS_009.58), the "Mist Shade," the game will freeze up when the mist starts to form [in battle]. I've tried this battle using several different pSX versions, from 1.7-1.11, and the same problem has occurred in every one. I'm using the default settings, with the exception of "Bilinear interpolation," which I've turned off, but I've also tested the battle with it on.
The emulator itself doesn't crash, but the game seems to just freeze up. Music will continue to play, and it seems to start playing random sound effects, as well.
I've tried different BIOs, and it doesn't appear to make any difference.

Are you playing from an image or a CD, 108? Whichever you're doing, try the other, as games that are problematic played from an image occasionally work well when played from a CD, and games that are problematic played from a CD occasionally work well when played from an image.
You could also try the -r switch - and search the forum!

You could also try the -r switch - and search the forum! I tried it with a CD this morning, and it didn't help, either. I did search the forums, and all I found were a few different errors. The compatibility list only says it'll screw up "after you fight Luca and Solon Jhe". I figured my encounter was worth posting here. As for "-r switch," I'll have to try that another time, as I decided to fight the battle in another emulator, save, and then load up the game after beating the boss in pSX.

108, one of the important ways this emulator progresses is by contributions from people in the form of game reports, which are collated by smegforbrain to add to his compatibility list. This enables pSX Author to get a clearer picture of what's working and what isn't, and how.
So, while your report so far is useful, it's not complete - if you think this is a good emulator and worth using, it behoves you to try the boss battle with the -r switch. It might even work!
BTW, the Bilinear interpolation filter is unlikely to affect how the game plays, except that in slow machines, the extra bit of processing might slow things down a little more.

This problem is fixed by the -r switch. I too had this problem. the game likely crash because when this boss appears, it uses some kind of fmv as the intro... Since the fmv intro of the game also crashes without the -r switch, this is no surprise.

Thanks, randomguy. See what happens when you ignore my advice, 108?

Thanks, randomguy. See what happens when you ignore my advice, 108? I didn't ignore your advice, seeing as how I didn't get your advice until after I loaded the game up in another emulator to solve the problem.
