Hi pSX Author,
Just interested, what sort of system specs would we be looking for to run PS2 emulation with your emulator?

Considering refraction helped a little on the new PS2 coding in pSX currently (v1.14 I mean), I'd say he was probably inspired whether he took a different path or not. Whatever path is taken, there are some things that would be coded the same way, so looking at some of the code would be helpful either way I'd think. pSX shares nothing in common with PCSX2 (I've probably been working on PS2 emulation for as long as they have!). Its actually quite interesting how different their architectures are. But.. I've known Refraction for quite a long time and we have shared knowledge several times (I've helped him and he has helped me - pSX's PS2 emulation has progressed much more slowly though because I am a one man team... its not a race though!).

Hi pSX Author, Just interested, what sort of system specs would we be looking for to run PS2 emulation with your emulator? It will require quite a fast PC - probably you'll need a recent CPU (potentially dual-core although currently I don't do any multithreading - I plan to though). Also you'll need a shader model 2 capable gfx card (but preferably something modern like an 8800).

The code that you have seen from the PCSX2 team, have you been inspired by it or taken a different path? pSX takes a very different path to PCSX2... Yes, pSX uses its own internal renderer - currently though I have not implemented deinterlacing. Its not possible to completely get rid of interlacing without breaking games - it is a fact of life on PS2 (although I will probably implement some de-interlacing filters similar to what you get in video editing packages).

Do you know if an Intel 950GMA chipset would work?

@psx Author: Thank you for clearing that up. I would've honestly thought that coding the same console would provide at least *some* of the same code (if using the same language(s)), but that just shows how much I know, eh? I noticed discussion of working together in other forums on this particular topic and didn't say anything, but... I'm really glad to see you two working together. I don't think there's anybody who could say they'd rather see you two compete, as I very much love programmers working together. I probably couldn't 100% understand the differences that pSX and PCSX2 have in coding (besides the usual accuracy vs enhancement kind of differences), but I'm looking forward to seeing down the road how the two compare. Not in any competition kind of way, but rather as just a matter of seeing what the strengths of the two are. nscxp2005: Considering pSX Author has pretty much stated that a modern graphics card would be best, and looking at how integrated cards work with other things, I'd have to guess that it won't get you very far. If you're running on a laptop, you probably shouldn't get your hopes up too much.

Do you know if an Intel 950GMA chipset would work? If its the one I'm thinking of then technically it probably will have the features to run the PS2 driver, but its probably far too slow to do it quickly enough.

I presume, pSX Author that, as you've mentioned before, that you'll need a CPU that implements SSE2 to run your PS2 emulation?

Cheers for all the answers!
How tricky is mutlithreading then? I imagine it is hard to optimise?
I'm gonna wish you lots of luck!

Sorry to break it to you, but he generally doesn't do beta releases. The most he's ever really done is released WIP versions of future versions, and that was usually to test specific fixes and such. As it usually goes though, we just have to wait for the next version.

And it's very generous of you to offer to do this without being paid, frog186...
