Game Title: Beyond the Beyond Game ID(s): SCUS_947.02 pSX Version(s): 1.13
Game used to lock up at the title screen in previous versions (as the compatibility list still says), but seems to be working perfectly now in 1.13. Running from an image (BIN/CUE converted to CDZ), using SCPH-1001 BIOS.
The compatibility list says to use the -r switch to avoid the "glitchy Camelot logo", but that must have been fixed in 1.13 also. No glitching that I can see, so I didn't notice any difference with -r enabled.

Fantastic to hear this is working, this game is one I really wanted to play being as I'm a big RPG fan. Although, from what I've seen of it it looks like the hero and his flying pet sidekick rips off the LUNAR games hugely!

Beyond the Beyond was considered one of the worst games ever made when it was released, and even nowdays its considered a real lame-o-rama. But if you give it a chance, you'll find out that its NOT that bad. Its nice for real RPG fans, but the casual player will hate it.

I wasn't expecting much from it, but it's actually a pretty good game. Camelot fans will especially dig it. Good soundtrack by the great Motoi Sakuraba too.

didn't knew the game, and gave it a try. seems to be a pretty generic JRPG, but i like it : remind me a lot of Dragon Quest series, for the game mechanics mostly. unfortunately i'v serious problems with this game under pSX 1.13, totally unplayable pSX display only garbage as soon as you go into map world mode. tested under ePSX, all is fine. i'v played the game for some time under ePSX then loaded the memcard into pSX : same problem as soon as i go into world map. i'm using pSX 1.13 with USA bios 1001, and the game ID is SCUS_947.02 i'll file a proper report with the compatibility report generator, but i would like to know if others suffers from the same problem. Edit by patrickp billoute, there was no need to start another thread: this is the same version of the same game as winotron originally posted about. I'm including your post from that thread as I'm deleting it to prevent responses being split between the two threads:Game Title: Beyond The Beyond Game ID(s): SCUS_947.02 pSX Version(s): 1.13 BIOS : (U)(v2.2)(1995-12-04)[SCPH-1001] display garbage as soon as you'r leaving a village/city/dungeon (2D) and enter the world map (3D) tested with and without the -r switch without any change works fine under ePSXe

Does this happen even when you go to the world map at the very beginning of the game, or further into it? I'm not very far into the game, but I know I didn't have any problems like this, the world map worked fine. Here's a screenshot from the world map near the beginning:

i'll try to find what's is messing my pSX/Game

Yep, the game is working fine for me (I haven't beaten the game though, so I don't know about any potential problems down the line...). I'm using the standard SCPH-1001 BIOS. I have a 20" LCD screen so I'm running the emulator in 1680x1050 (fullscreen) with vsync and bilinear interpolation on. I haven't messed with any other settings except to set up my USB dual shock controller, so everything else should be at default settings.
My system specs are: Athlon XP 2600+ 1GB RAM ATI Radeon X1600 PRO AGP 128mb Windows XP SP2

billoute, I encounter the exact same problem with garbled graphics as you do. As soon as I leave the first town, and when an encounter with enemies happens on the world map BANG and then of course it's unplayable Edit by patrickp: pontiac, I'm including your post from billoute's duplicate thread here, as I'm deleting that thread to prevent splitting responses on this.same problem here, except happened for me when I encountered an enemy out in the world map (basically after about 5 seconds of being out in it!) so it seems it's something to do with the change from world map to enemy confrontation, this garbled gfx.

OK, I went back and tested the game more, and I do actually have this same problem, except it only happens some of the time. I'm not sure what causes it or if it's just completely random. I saved a state right at the edge of a town so I can load it and try it again quickly, and it only happens about half the time. I guess I just got really lucky the first time I played this to have not run into this. So, sorry for the bad report guys.

Yep, I reproduced this as well on the same game (same id) and bios. I fastfowarded the mandatory story parts at the beginning of a new game, and when I got to world map, it was working fine. However, after entering the cave, fighting once, talking to the girl, and then leaving the cave, I got the busted world map.

so, it seems we'v an emu related incompatibilty. I'v tried playing the game from real CD, making an ISO and running it directly by using "open image" and finally, running the ISO from Dtools with no effect. i'v even dloaded the game somewhere but same problems. one thing bother me : for me, the problem occurs each time i try to go open world. no random play, it crashes each time. Even when i'm loading a save from ePSXe after playing further into the game. Here my save, if you want to check : mapage.noos.fr/billoute/beyondthebeyond.bini don't know if there's a PAL version of this game, so we can test it. I'll try to find an external cause, just in case, like a differet version of my CG driver, but i don't think it'll change anything. badly, pSX console show no errors when the problem occurs.

Going to mark this one as a red for now, even though winotron has shown the game has some playability.
