patrickp: If your offer is still on the table to people, here is westicles' converted memory card file. As always, let me know if it doesn't work for some reason. I'm really tired right now, so it's quite possible I missed something or mistyped something without realizing it.

Here you go, GM: Legend of Legaia.mcrwesticles: I picked up Slippery for Noa and Gala while I was going through the castle - honest, I couldn't help it! Neither of them had Ivory Books equipped, either... I also picked up a couple of chests while I was looking for the mirror room - I always search an area thoroughly before moving on; not only do you pick up a lot of goodies and information, but you also gain a lot more experience - and Slipperys! I wasn't looking round this time; only going for the mirror room. The new save point is in an inn roughly where the previous save point was in present Conkram, so you can rest up to fix whatever I've inflicted on your characters... XO

I'm sure the accessories were all messed up. Before I started reading on the forums here, I began trying everything I could think of in the program and then started messing with stuff in the game itself. I thought that surely I'd find some way to go beyond that section without having to bother anybody with something this complicated. I usually do pride myself on being somewhat of a good troubleshooter when it comes to getting things to work. I just have you all to thank for the great help when I met my match. You mentioned being a contributing member. I mostly do design work for web (HTML/Flash) and 3D; but I'm an avid gamer and consider myself to be of at least average intelligence. I also know VB pretty well. If there's anything I can help out with, name it. Otherwise, you all are welcome to my 2ยข at any time. Getting back to Legaia-speak, as for Slippery, or any seru in general, they just did NOT want to be captured for some reason. I kid you not. I had to dispose of 2 dozen Spoons or better just to finally get the one Vahn has. Running back and forth through the bottom floors of Sol for an hour and a half before fighting Gaza finally got boring enough to say "screw it" and move on. I probably missed everything around the Conkram area. I was aware that this hang was coming after having read the compatibility list (totally missed the forums link then) and really didn't worry about chests around there. My foolish pride and desire for a challenge brought on the stubbornness to actually play up to the hang, though. I was about to fire up the PS2 (or dig my PSX back out of storage) and just start over again (I love the story/plot) when I saw this thread. Once again, I'm in the community's debt and am most appreciative. I'll contribute what I can.

Good to hear you intend becoming a contributive member, westicles - you sound like you have skills to contibute. A few points about acquiring Seru - first, have the character(s) you want to get Seru equipped with Ivory Books and then, when fighting them, don't use magic, and try to just kill them - i.e. if you inflict just enough damage to kill them , you've got a much better chance of acquiring them than if you inflict way more than enough damage. Some places are better than others for acquiring Seru and also, the higher your level is compared to the Seru, the more easily you'll acquire it. That's what probably happened here: because the characters' levels were higher, they picked the Slipperys up more easily. Edit: I'm sure GM will have your save converted shortly.

heh. I guess it would do me well to read a faq/walkthrough every now and then, huh? I've just always liked figuring that stuff out on my own, though. Besides, except for healing, I don't even really mess with magic except for the talismans (which I haven't really gotten much of a chance to get into yet).
BTW, I'm excellent with the slot machine. If anybody wants 20,000 tokens or so within an hour (assuming I'm online), I'd be glad to oblige. I've memorized the patterns and can get 3 punches within 5 tries most every time.

Here is your memory card, with the filename you originally gave it. I checked the saves before uploading to ensure the conversion went well, so you can paste it over your original memory card if you want. I should add that patrickp has preserved your original save and created a new save with the progress.

Hey, we're just glad to be of service. We both love pSX, and enjoy helping others so they can enjoy it the same as we do.
Besides... now you have *me* playing the game again. Haven't actually played it in a few years, though I played Legaia 2 (PS2) about a year ago (which, if you like the first game, you'd almost definitely enjoy the second one).

LOL! It's funny how this game was actually behind its time as far as graphics and animation are concerned... or at least I thought it was. It's just the story, the side quests, the anime-esque feel to the battle system, etc that make this a great game. I actually got a playable demo in the mail that ended when you left Rim Elm for Drake Castle that turned me on to this game. I was living with the parents in a small town at the time, and I barely knew what was decent on the internet except ICQ and battle.net. haha!
To be honest, I heard the same thing over and over from people who'd played Legaia 2 saying that it was horrible. I never played it because I wanted to preserve Legend of Legaia as one of my more favorite PSX titles.

Well, Alundra 2 was a pretty awful sequel to Alundra. I even have a copy, but it never managed to spoil my enjoyment of the original game, westicles.
It's funny how many great games can be described as

Well, admittedly, Legaia 2 is another one of those games that is quite "behind its time", but of course both games have that problem compared to others released at the same time. Legaia 2 is one of those games that, by looking at it, you get a feeling of certainty that it could've been made as a higher-end PS1 game instead. Gameplay is nearly identical, and both stories have a similar feel to them, in terms of how things play out and the worlds themselves. But if I had to compare Legaia 2 to Legend of Legaia, I couldn't say that one was significantly better or worse than the other. Most people tend to rate the game with expectations. They expect that since Legaia 2 was released quite a few years after Legend of Legaia, and on a PS2 instead of the PS1, that it should be that much better.
Legaia 2 has some basic improvements to graphics and sound, being on the PS2, but nothing groundbreaking. The battle system has some small tweaks to it, but overall they are almost identical. Storylines are quite similar in terms of quality, though that is something that would vary person to person (I prefer Legend of Legaia's, just a little, probably because I played it first, long before I ever heard of Legaia 2). Legend of Legaia, however, has a little more in the area of optional quests and mini-games that Legaia 2 lacked a bit of, in comparison.
I honestly think you should find a copy of Legaia 2 (not too hard, I bought mine in the "$20 and Under" bin at a game store for $12 about 2 years ago), and give it a good playthrough. My only advice while playing it... if you're the type who possibly has those kinds of expectations, try playing the game and pretend it's a PS1 game while you're playing. That should even things out enough for you to be able to play and enjoy the game.
