Hi everyone yesterday i downloaded your emulator, and it's working like a charm on my vista machine. (best emulator! good job) but when i tried to start it on my (much older) XP system i started getting all kinds of errors. first i got the missing .dll file error, i fixed that problem with the link you guys have on your mainpage i think that also fixed the 'failed to initialize D3D' thing. (not sure, all i know is that that error is gone too ) i also got the 32-bit error, even though my screen was set to 32-bit solved that by switching to 16-bit now when i start psxfin, everything looks okay, the 'DOS' windows comes up, and i have to select a language. so i select english, then the 'PSX V1.13' window comes up and i get this error "b0rken unhandled exception. save a crash dump?" i have searched all over the forums, and most topics about this end up unanswered cause people give no info... now i'm not sure what kind of info you need, but here are my specs (i know it's a VERY old pc lol, but i hope it's good enough :S ) Pentium 3, 933Mhz ~390 MB RAM some really old videocard, 3dfx voodoo shhh (updated drivers etc) Windows XP pro (sp2)i tried removing the psx.ini file and starting the program, but the same error occurs. here is the dump file, i RAR'd it, cause it's 75MB uncompressed... www.zshare.net/download/10732109ea58edc5/any idea's? thanks in advance!

Try a different BIOS image, yours may be corrupt and causing the emulator to crash.
Also there are probably more recent drivers to be found for your Voodoo card than the ones you're using, there's a whole community out there doing hacked drivers.
I don't have any first hand knowledge with those, but I'm sure there's someone around here who can point you in the right direction. Every forum has at least one 3dfx enthusiast.. ;D

hi Sune, thanks for the reply i tried a different BIOS but i got the same error. (would be weird if the BIOS was corrupted though, as i am using the same one on Vista) if someone can find me an up-to-date driver for my ancient card (3dfx voodoo banshee) i'd be very happy (reminder: i'd need one that works on winXP) i googled for one, but i have no idea which are actually 'good' and i don't want to mess anything up

Get the latest FULL DirectX distribution from march 2008.
Do a google search for "directx_mar2008_redist.exe"

found it and installed it
unfortunately i still get the same error. though the error is coming like 1 millisecond later, cause now i can see some color on the screen (i think it's trying to show the playstation logo)
so i think something did improve

That makes me think it's probably video related more than anything else. I think it's time for you to go hunting for updated, hacked drivers for your banshee.

hmm, well i found a driver from 2004 (from guru3d ^^, one site that i KNOW is clean) but i still get the same error in the meantime i also tried a different emulator i downloaded 'epsxe' (sorry if i'm not allowed to mention the name, i'll edit if so) thing is, this emulator works (perfectly... steady 60fps etc) it just does NOT play FF7, half the screen is black in battles, so i have no idea what i am doing. i also don't like the plugins. (setting it up is a b1tch) so i really don't want to keep using it. (i heard it has trouble with all FF's, and those are the only games i have left)

Maybe this'll help. Register at Vogons and post in the "emulation of old consoles" subsection. vogons.zetafleet.com/Tell them about what happens when you try to run pSX on your Voodoo card. The crowd over there are experts in old hardware, if it's possible to run pSX on your video card, they will know which driver to use. Good luck.
