The only currently worthwhile emulator for PS2 is PCSX2. Being plug-in based, it's more like ePSXe (and obviously, PCSX).

I need to try some more games in the latest version of PCSX2. I was able to get Dynasty Warriors 5 running at about 30fps, so I would imagine quite a few games run great since few have as much going on at once as a Dynasty Warriors game does.

Yup, with decent hardware and decent settings (nothing *too* modest), there are quite a few games that run on PCSX2 and run well. Quite surprisingly to me, considering where it was just a couple years ago. I've tested quite a few PS2 games on the latest release, and was constantly surprised by how well it all went. Quite disappointing that Eternal Poison isn't running at all yet (well, it *runs*, but the screen stays black, and though I can't tell, it seems to eventually freeze somewhere in the opening scene). Not a big deal, since I can play on my PS2 usually... but there's something about playing it on an emulator that just makes it seem different. Like, cooler, you know?

I'd say more like convenient for when your PS2 eventually dies and you're too lazy to go buy another.

PCSX2 development has jumped ahead quite a bit even after the 0.9.6 version as well, I've been building my own builds from svn every time there is some potentially big changes in the code. It's interesting. Still waiting for Beyond Good & Evil to be playable, but that game just doesn't want to work. Right now it's hanging on the gfx plugins, GSdx is close, but there is something strange still happening there. It sounds like it works great though, just a little difficult to play without image. Too bad that I don't have beefy enough computer to run it in software mode, which seems like it might be close to perfect that way.

True, the progress has been pretty good lately too. I'm working with PCSX2 v0.9.7 b1190 currently, which seems to be a nice improvement over v0.9.6 (though only in a few of my games is there a noticeable difference). Pretty soon, even a computer like mine will be able to run the majority of games at good speeds without problems.
Now that I'm thinking about it, I should see if it'll run Over Zenith (Sword of Etheria) decently. I haven't played it in a while now, and my ARMAX (and my old fat PS2) are buried somewhere at the bottom of a box still. Seems like the perfect opportunity for PCSX2 to be actually *useful* and not just a novelty... lol.

I'd say more like convenient for when your PS2 eventually dies and you're too lazy to go buy another. my ps2 is set up at my parents home, so in case i want to, i have some machine to play some games while visiting them over the weekend, or something like that. and i really don't feel like buying another one just to play some games now and then, when there's already so much unfinished games vor newer consoles lying around also, i't nice to have emulators on businesstrips or long trainrides when the book you packed turns out to be pretty boring after a few hours.
