It's going to take a while, especially since pSX Author is placing his focus on PlayStation emulation, nevermind the fact that it's complex as it is.

Meh, I tried booting the PS2 bios on pSX 1.7. I DOES boot, but it started at 6.07 FPS (A.K.A very slow), and when the PS2 logo apeared, it was at 1.23 FPS (A.K.A pukinly slow).
I don't even know if it boots any game, but I don't have the patience to test it yet... Maybe when I get my new pc...

pSX has been designed from the start to handle the PS2 BIOS, and thus perhaps eventually PS2 emulation in full. It's just that the focus currently is on PSX emulation, not PS2.

There is a pretty good PS2 emulator that has good compatibility with commercial games. I only get 10-15 FPS in the bios but playing a game it will be 5 FPS. Other people with higher systems get around 30-50 FPS on some games. Very promising. Check their website here: www.pcsx2.net/

Very promising indeed, I have been following their emu ever since they published the first screens. Gotta buy a super strong comp when it's playable like pSX now.

Yeah, looks like you'll need a dual processor rig to get the full benefits...

Imagine what it would be like to run FFX on your pc... you will find moments where it will slowdown like mad. It happens on the ps2. Also, what the ps2 uses (hardware wise), you will need double or maybe even triple more for you want to run ps2 games on pc.

Actually, I would say 10 times. Most of the times, you need a PC that is 10 times more powerfull than the hardware you want to emulate. And in some cases, even more (like the Saturn emulators, which you need a VEEERY fast machine to run at a good speed).

Well things have changed now, the next gen consoles run on similar hardware the pc nowadays has. This is also the reason why the ps2 emulator made faster progress than it's time before with the psone.

Well don't forget that the emulator scene has growth a lot these years. And pcsx2 has a team that is working everyday on the emulator, which is something that was lacking before. Pcsx is running since 3 or 4 year now. And they just came to have almost fullspeed, with a very poor game compatibility
Edit : And for the speed, I think it is just a lack of optimisation.

Yeah the slow speeds do come from lack of optimization (which they're doing in PCSX2 0.9.x anyway), but you'll still need a pretty beefy system to run games even after optimizations.
