So, I was patching a game of mine using an XPS (yes, I DO own it, btw ^_^)
I used the DOS program XPS.COM (or, what they call XPS Executable)
the patcher patched the first couple of parts without an error message, but then it looked for something for a few minutes, and then put up an error and quit.
When I put the game in, it started up perfectly.
The question is, should I be worried about that one part that wasn't patched?
The game, btw, was Legend of Dragoon, and the patch was the one that didn't have all the extra trainers with it.
Thanks for any help!

Are you sure that the patch was the correct one for the version you have, howlingblue? That is, correct format and country?
Also, since you were patching the game, I presume it's copy protected? In that case, did you rip it with a program that can deal with copy protection, like CloneCD or CDRWin?

In that case, did you rip it with a program that can deal with copy protection, like CloneCD or CDRWin? I was pretty sure the patch was right, but I'll check again..... The program I ripped it with was ISOBuster, but I used a different program to apply the patch if that's what you're asking...

ISObuster is, I think, a good image ripper, but it won't break copy protection. If the patch is to defeat copy protection, then the image you've ripped (as it's from a copy-protected CD) may be imperfect, so the patch, obviously, won't work. As I said, the good rippers for defeating copy protection are CloneCD ( www.slysoft.com/en/) and CDRWin ( www.goldenhawk.com/). I use CloneCD, myself, but CDRWin is probably ATM the best one to use for pSX Emu, as it will rip straight to .bin/.cue format. Clone CD rips to .img format, so you then need to apply the patch to the .img image, mount the resultant image and rip it again to .bin/.cue with ISObuster, burnatonce or similar. Neither is free, but both will allow trial use, I think.

That is, correct format and country? turns out you're right, the patch was for NTSC JAP, but all I saw was NTSC..... I'm still gonna take my chances and use the JAP patch instead of the US one, since the US one seems to have a bunch of extra stuff I don't need with it, and the game seems to load just fine...... Although, if anyone can locate the US patch that does not have the extra trainers I would be extremely grateful!

Does it need patching, howlingblue - have you tried playing the unpatched image?
While copy protection is not unknown in US NTSC versions, it's a lot less common than in versions from other areas.
edit: I see on MegaGames that there is a fix for the US NTSC version, which suggests it is copy protected. I realise it has trainers and PAL/NTSC switching included, but what's the problem with this? You don't have to use the trainers or switching, and at least it means you get your game properly patched.

Plus, if my friends saw a cheat menu pop up when I loaded it, it would kinda destroy my image, lol...... Anyways, I was playing it earlier, and it seems to work fine using the NTSC-J patch, so until I see a problem, I'm just gonna use like this..... Thanks for the help, though!
