Yeah... the "analog button" idea really would take only a few minutes. Cuz the whole base code is already written. The code for it would simply be taking the code controlling which controller the game's being told is in use, and modifying it very slightly to allow for a button toggle. Or code for the button toggle could be written and then the actual toggles would be calls to whatever functions are already written for switching the controller type. It's hard to be specific without seeing the code, but the basics of it is... I can't think of any way that the code could've been written that would make the process of adding the toggle take longer than a few minutes.
But like you said, pSX Author has already stated that any free time he manages to get for working on pSX has been used for bug fixes and small accuracy improvements. And he hasn't had much free time. We can only hope that one of these days, he might just end up in a mood to simply implement a bunch of tiny little requests that we've made. I know that feeling... I get it sometimes myself with programs and other projects of mine. But they can be rare. And each person is different.
I really do love that analog button idea though... for being easy to do, it would really make a lot of people happy, and would stop some related complaints. Although... I guess I should call it the analog/controller toggle, cuz either one would be equally as effective for their purpose. I guess if pSX Author decides to do it, it'll be his choice which to do. The decision could boil down to this... make it an analog toggle, which would be truer to the PSX, or make it a controller toggle, which would make more sense from the emulator's point of view (go into options to switch controller types, or push the button to switch controller types).
