THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR POSTING FEATURE REQUESTS
Until a better one is written... (Ultima: Gamesoul Master is locked into doing this from now on! Ahahahaa! Well, administrators can feel free to edit as they please as well, of course ;P)
This thread is dedicated to listing the requests that, one way or another, need not be requested. Usually it'll be because it's been requested more than enough times or it'll *never* happen.
Please do not post here unless you have a constructive comment about the list itself. For instance, if you see a request frequently made that isn't on this list, or if something on here needs a better description or updated link, *only then* should a post be made here. NOTHING ELSE SHOULD BE POSTED HERE.
To make this list I have combed through the request threads, but I'm obviously not perfect, so neither is this list, I'm sure.
Read this thread carefully, because even if a request title doesn't quite seem to fit your possible request, its description might.
OBVIOUS, DON'T BOTHER REQUESTING
NOT HAPPENING
POSSIBLE
WILL EVENTUALLY BE DONE

OBVIOUS, DON'T BOTHER REQUESTING
- Improved compatibility/speed
These go without saying. It never needs to be requested. The emulator's goal is to come as close to 100% emulation of the PS1, and improving these things is part of that goal. As long as people use the emulator and pSX Author is still alive, he will continue to improve the basics of the emulator. - Please make X game work
This will get ignored and probably piss off some of us. That kind of thing goes in the "Game Compatibility" thread with full information on the problem. This too is something that just goes with the goal of 100% PS1 emulation. Report a non-working game here. - Please add support for X controller/converter
Stop asking. Report the problem in the Bug Reports section. pSX Author does his best, but can't get every controller and converter to work perfectly. - Bug fixes
Same as the other items here in terms of being part of the goal. Also, bug reports are to be made in the appropriate section, found here. - Rumble fixes/enhancements
Over-requested and unnecessary. The rumble problem with many controllers is well-known and being worked on by pSX Author. Enhancements will only be made if pSX Author feels they need to be made for accuracy/compatibility, regardless of whether it's requested or not. If you're having problems, there are various threads throughout the forum addressing some problems with specific controllers and adapters... search for them. - Release date for update on version, game compatibility, etc
Basically, any question that involves asking "when" should not be asked. It's more a matter of respect than anything else. pSX Author has a life like everybody else. When he wants to release the next version, he will. Same goes for implementation of specific game compatibility, bug fixes, and more features. Reporting problems or making requests is fine (as long as they're not previously reported/requested). However, *don't* ask any questions about "when", as you'll most certainly not get an answer. - WIP releases or requests for beta testing
This is not gonna happen. It's quite rare for pSX Author to release WIP versions these days, which were usually to test specific fixes and such. As for beta testing, there is no need, nor will it ever happen. Any testing that gets done, pSX Author can handle himself.
NOT HAPPENING
- Context menu in fullscreen
Over-requested and impossible at this point. pSX Author has said that as of D3D9, this can't be done in fullscreen. So don't expect to ever see it. - Plugins
There will *never* be plugins of any sort. Do not make any requests that involve implementing or using plugins. Part of the primary intention of this emulator is to be simple to use by a lack of plugins. So... no plugins. Never. Don't ask. - Open source
This is not happening ever. pSX Author is writing this emulator, and will not be releasing the source. Do not ask for it, and do not ask to help him program it or try to convince him to work with some other programmer. He is doing perfectly fine on his own, and that's just how it is. If you are a developer and need help and/or ideas from pSX Author, you can ask him for specific stuff from the source code, and he might reveal it to you, but the full source is out of the question at this point. - XBox ports
Over-requested and not happening. pSX Author has done an XBox port, but it is outdated now and will probably not be worked on or released, for reasons he doesn't want to get into.
POSSIBLE
- Built-in BIOS
Possible, but not likely. More likely for the PS2 emulator, if anything. - Cheat device function
Over-requested. Way too much. We know everybody wants this, and it's quite possible that pSX Author will implement it sometime, so don't count it out. In the meantime, check out the Gameshark Alternative thread here to hold you over. - Fix the reversed buttons in the controller configuration dialog
They are not reversed. They are the same as how they are on the real PlayStaion controller. That is just how Sony designed them. A new graphic for the controller may be implemented in the future to clear the confusion but it is not a priority at the moment. - Frame-skipping stuff
Over-requested. As nice as it would be to adjust the frame skip rate, there is no word on when/if any more options will be added related to frame skipping. - Graphic filters
Another one you definitely do *not* to ask for. Besides a possible NTSC filter, there will be no filtering implemented in the near future besides what's already there. That means no requests for enhanced scaling, interpolation, scanlines, HQ, LQ, AA, AF, etc. This emulator is made for accuracy, not enhancement. This is what pSX Author had to say on this topic: "Currently I do not want to do this - my plan for pSX is to emulate the PS1 exactly - it is possible that I will add these sorts of features in the distant future but for now accuracy comes first." (Taken from an interview here: www.cgemulation.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1207) - Netplay
Way over-requested. pSX Author said that he will add it eventually, but it is not very high on his list of priorities. He also stated that it is not something that he can just implement in just a short period of time and his time is better spent on other things in the emulator at the moment. - OpenGL rendering
It's possible, considering the Linux port uses OpenGL. Just don't expect it to be like OpenGL plugins seen in other emulators if it *does* ever get implemented. It's addition would most likely be purely for rendering to the screen, as a method of getting away from DirectX and making the rendering engine universal to all platforms. - Options for setting/resetting/toggling keys
Over-requested and highly desired. And yet another one that is quite possible, but not certain. This request encompasses anything relating to modification/usage of keys, including (but not limited to) analog / digital toggling of the controller, toggling of the fast forward function, or toggling of bilinear filtering. - Option to set the CD Drive in the configuration options
Over-requested. This one pSX Author is well-aware of and has not necessarily refused, so it's possible to happen someday, but there is no word on if or when this may happen. Although, this too can be controlled easily using Ultima's frontend. - Resolution switching
Over-requested. There have been many difficulties mentioned with resolution switching in emulation. This would actually almost fall under "part of the goal of perfect emulation", and no good will come of bringing this up as a request anyway. - Support for DexDrive memory card files
Also over-requested. Don't count it out, but there hasn't been any word either way as to whether it'll be done eventually or not. A useful utility to manage/convert memory card files can be found here. - Support for other image formats
This has been over-requested. Nero images, PowerISO images... whatever. This is another one not to count out, as pSX Author has already progressively added compatibility for all the most popular image formats. - Support for Zinc ROMs
One of the few that is here simply because pSX Author has given his answer on it. That answer is "possible". At the time, he said the main thing was that he could probably get around the extra video memory, but had no access to these ROMs. And do NOT bother trying to offer these ROMs to him. If he wanted something like that, he would've asked or found it himself.
WILL EVENTUALLY BE DONE
- MacOS port
This is what pSX Author has said about this topic: "I plan to do a Linux port in the near future - once that is done one of my friends wants to do a MacOS port." So, there you have it. Be patient and stop asking for it! (Taken from an interview here: www.cgemulation.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1207)
A MacOS port has been done for pSX v1.14, so all we're waiting on is the actual release of v1.14. - PS2 Emulation
pSX Author has pretty much stated that PS2 emulation has been put on hold indefinitely. He's been doing some work on it here and there lately, but don't expect any noticeable results for quite a while yet. Asking for it will do no good.
This is what he had to say about this: "In the future I will work on PS2 emulation, but it will probably be quite a while before it runs commercial games at any kind of useful speed." (Taken from an interview here: www.cgemulation.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1207) - Record and re-record feature
pSX Author has stated that he is currently working on movie recording and AVI capture, which will possibly be available in the next version (v1.14).
MISCELLANEOUS
- Fixing the built-in CD Player
It works. You just have to know how to use it properly. If you want to know how, check here. - N64 emulation
pSX Author has been writing an N64 emulator as a side project, but is on even "harder" hold than PS2 emulation, so there's a good chance we'll never see it. - Option to hide the DOS console
Besides the fact that it's counter-productive, unnecessary, and over-requested... this can be accomplished using Ultima's frontend program... use the link in Ultima's or my signature to download it. It's become very useful and fully-featured without being overdone. The information and download thread for Ultima's frontend is here. - PocketStation emulation
pSX Author would love to add support for the PocketStation, but unfortunately, due to a serious lack of technical information/documentation available on it, he is unable to create an emulator for the device.
