Hopefully I don't get shot for this thread... Instead of just saying "I want cheat support for pSX", I'd like to see some expansion on the idea, ie, what should the hopefully-eventual cheat support for pSX entail. I think the basics are pretty much a given: being able to enter cheats for any of the different Playstation cheat devices that were out there: Game Shark, Action Replay Pro, whatever else there might be. Something I really love about virtualnes is the ability to search the hex so you can find & create your own cheats. This gives any cheat device a lot more power than just entering preexisting codes. The ability to instantly turn codes on/off when the game is running is always nice. Ok, the train of thought has already run dry. Maybe somebody else has something though.

Indeed, this thread should be fine. I'm going to lock the feature requests thread now, and having one thread for discussion of this feature is what I was actually looking for

This is definitely something I'd like to see. I'm cheap and like to use cheats (but that's just how I enjoy my games). I briefly looked into that "CEP" program in another thread here, and immediately felt overwhelmed. An in-emulator trainer would be marvelous.

Give the thread a quick read through, thedigitalnomad, and particularly, look at Gamesoul Master's instructions included in the download in this post. It even worked for me... Try it with v1.9 of the emulator; I'm not sure if it'll work with 1.10. Edit: whoops! Finally remembered to include link!

Just to make sure it's not neglected... My understanding is a cheat engine will be added to pSX, this is a great new and it would be even greater if it was compatible with pec (psx emu cheater) cheat database format. We could start with a huge database of cheats right away. Any chance you could consider implementing this compatibility to the cheat engine? Regards

As a 'veteran' MAME cheater I'd be only too happy to see a cheat engine in pSX. For whatever reason, I just couldn't ever get into [pec] whatsoever. If possible, would there be any way of making it in-game via a menu (if it's in full-screen mode), rather than quitting out of the game as per others? Something I really love about virtualnes is the ability to search the hex so you can find & create your own cheats. This gives any cheat device a lot more power than just entering preexisting codes. Well said. I will never understand why there wasn't such an option in the two Nintendo 64 emulators. My only 'request' is to make sure it isn't limited to 8-bit values, or in a binary (hex edit only) file! I only hope it ends up Notepad friendly for quick editing/optimising without the hassle of opening up the emulator and game each time - I tend to do this with MAME rather than use the interface to add/save items these days. Editing cheats for SNES9x is purely evil! While the [pec] file format is possibly one of the best around, besides the all-conquering MAME/MESS cheat.dat, the cheat interface wasn't all that friendly the last time I used it. I think the 'default' cheat file would need to be maintained by someone so 'useless' cheats aren't left in there. Such as the title screen text cheat for Tekken 3 I came across in [pec], and the numerous copied and pasted NTSC to PAL cheats which obviously don't work at all. I think that last bit just about summed up what Ultima meant. You never know, Pugsy's cheats forum might even be able to give us a hand here (and maybe a board near HazeMD and MESS) if a half decent cheat engine is put in.

Here is what pSX Author had to say about making an in-game menu...

Bump. You could always remake the GUI using alternatives to GDI; how did we live back in the 90s with ZSNES, NeoRAGE and the like?

Hey, I still use ZSNES, as it's still the best SNES emulator out there...

Me too - in Linux. So easy to install - 1.51's in the Ubuntu Gutsy and Hardy repositories.
