I fail to see the need for it. On an HDTV and LCD monitor the video looks like it's only using a TV Scanline Filter and really looks awful in my opinion. I'd rather not use it and when I tried it in ZSnes it killed my frame rates even with my Turion64 X2 TL-50 1.6 GHz. Honestly I don't see myself using it and the normal Bi-Linear Filter already in pSX does enough work to Anti-Alias the image enough for my taste. Honestly, when I have an HD monitor to view video with, why should I make it look like it's on an old SDTV? xs220.xs.to/xs220/07406/psxemulator113.jpgOn a real Playstation + TV this game don't look pixelated like that. That's why people want some filter, to play PSX games on PC monitors.

I'd don't think I'd find myself using it, either, but the bottom line is, you don't have to. If it were to be included, it would have to be optional.
The question is, is it worth it? As I said, I don't think I'd feel the need to use it, but a lot of people probably would.
BTW, I see you fixed your link, RyuRanVII, but it might be a better idea to post a thumbnail rather than a large image. Large images force the page width wider, which makes it hard to read for some people, and can make the page take too long to load for those on slow connections. Most image file hosting sites allow for this.

Well... What license is Blarrgs's code under? Maybe it just cannot be used since pSX isn't open-sourced? Which would make any begging pointless.

LGPL, so it should be safe to compile/link with the library. Of course, modifications would be necessary to make it work with pSX, but only those changes would need to be open sourced (not the source code for the entire emulator).

Well. Ok. That should be possible then.
On the interface side, I would prefer something simple: Eg self descriptive radio buttons.
O No filter O Fast filter O Full filter
perhaps with the middle choice as the default.
The Fast Filter would be the Bilinear one and the Full TV Filter the NTSC one.

Having NO option to use it is even fuglier.
I think its always great to have options to all features on every emulator. I for one used to hate the forced frameskip on VGS, and I like the option to turn frameskip off on pSX.
Same applies to the NTSC filter. Maybe I woukdn't use it, but I would like if pSX had it as an option.

Scanlines are adjustable in zsnes' video mode. There's 4 settings - off, 25%, 50%, 100%. Obviously 100% scanlines being the darkest and most noticable. Setting it to 25% scanlines with interpolation enabled is almost as good as what a real snes looks like running through an old RGB monitor. I think all emulators should have that option.

I'd have to say, the NTSC filter in Nestopia does look pretty accurate when compared side by side to my PAL NES! The Nintendo was never one for sharp graphics, I always used to bag the NES for that, and the 'farty' triangle wave, and the fact it would always give you a (not emulated!) flashing grey screen when you put a game in! The Master System was very clear on my TV in comparison, no fuzzy vertical lines there.

Not so different here in the US. The NTSC filter on Nestopia looks literally identical to the TV I used for the NES and early SNES days. I can't say that the Master System looked any better, though.
I still feel that an NTSC filter should be an optional thing. I'd definitely put myself in favor of having it, but I can say outright that it'd be like Nestopia for me-- sometimes I feel like using the filter, sometimes I like to play without it, and sometimes I like to run HQ2X or the like. It's all dependent on my mood, and having more choices is good-- as long as it's not confusing to the end user.

NTSC filter would be the coolest feature I can think of to have in pSX.
I really hate the pixelisation on my HDTV when I play older games, and the NTSC filters in nestopia and zsnes have been wonderful. If pSX had it too that would really be nice.

Well the bilinear filter fairly reproduces what a TV would do to the picture, and if anything, pSX should look better on your TV than the actual console would, since the TV would filter the image even further (when outputting to the TV, turning off the filters shows that the TV does its own filtering even with computer output).
Basically... what we have is still providing a picture at *least* as good as the original PS1. You should try playing the original NES on that TV... LOL.
