pSX Version: 1.5 (1.4 worked the same) CPU: AMD Athlon 2400+ RAM: 1.5GB Video: nVidia GeForce FX 5200 CD Player: Mad Dog MD-16XDVD9 Game: X-Men: Children of the Atom [SLUS-00044 #21051]
Either from cue/bin, original game CD, or cdz the game does not start. I get a repeating error:
r3000: executed illegal opcode 000000ff
This could be due to copyprotection, but I'm unsure.

I don't believe the game was copy protected. Where does it get up to before it freezes?

When I load either image or disc, I get that error. It happens just after the bios and the 'starting PS game' screens. This is after it tells me this (for CD-ROM load): IoControl: Using raw read CDROM: Using IoControl Then the error when the PS screen fades to black.
When I use the ASPI drivers instead of Auto, I get this: failed: 224 hastat: 0 targstat:0 sense: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
I did a check online and yes, there is no copy protection on the game...

Yeah, actually. I have issues with Legend of Dragoon (It won't start at all). I'm using bios SCPH1001.BIN... maybe I should try the other bios, could fix it.
Anyway, I've got no issues with many games that I have: Vandal-Hearts, Bomberman Party Edition, Chrono Cross, Brigandine, various Capcom fighting games (Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter), Bust-A-Move 2 Arcade, etc. etc. etc.
I'll try the other bios if I can find it, maybe that'll fix the issue, but I'm not sure.

Legend of Dragoon is copy protected, so that's not a good game to compare with ;P
In any case... have you tried the game on another emulator, just to make sure it's not a corrupted image? (I doubt it, but this is just to make sure)

I got ahold of scph7502.bin and it works with Legend of Dragoon. Interesting game. Though I still get the original issue with Children of the Atom: "r3000: executed illegal opcode 000000ff" from either CD or from Image (bin/cue and cdz) Edit: I could never get the other emulators to really work for me Too many options to mess with... heh I'll try it though. But I don't think my CD is corrupt, it plays fine on my PS2.

Hm...? Was Legend of Dragoon patched? And um, I didn't notice you said you tried it on CD already -- sorry (the problem probably does lie with pSX then)

I played Legend of Dragoon off the CD. I got the patch for it and will be patching the image when I get around to backing it up again... heh should have tried the other bios before I deleted the files, eh? And I tried copying X-Men with blindread this time, converting it to cue/bin with cd-mage and then running from the CD and from the cue/bin in pSX. Same thing with both bios files... Oh, well. I'll just play it on my PS2 until pSX catches up Now to see if The Next Tetris works with scph7502! Edit: And nah, The Next Tetris still has issues as I described last time... bleh

i think that thats error have something to do with CD driver... i have similar problem... on one computer i have "IoControl: Using raw read" and crash - on other computer it's work fine (same emu setting)

I get the same error with the image I made and the CD-ROM. I'm going to try using a different image made by someone else and see if that works (It's legal, I own the game afterall... hehe)
Edit: OK, completely different image and the same opcode result from X-Men: Children of the Atom.
Ultima: The edit button is quite handy... ;P

Here's an update for v1.6: I am actually able to get to the menu to choose number of players and then to arcade mode/practice/etc. The music is playing, though it skips, and it doesn't go beyond that.
Here are some error messages I get from the .cdz: pos=82575 auto=91730 pos=82575 auto=91730 r3000: executed illegal opcode 00000030 r3000: executed illegal opcode 72a5c008 r3000: executed illegal opcode 000000ff cdda buffer underflow (n=32 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=106 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=310 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=521 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=724 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=19 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=9226 cdda_in=0 spf=2940 cdda buffer underflow (n=76 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=77 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=253 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=77 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=76 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=19 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=254 cdda_in=0 spf=2940) cdda buffer underflow (n=253 cdda_in=0 spf=2940)
It's pretty much the same for the bin/cue and for CD.
Thankee!

Tested with 1.8: The menu system works beautifully, sound is grand. When the game goes to the menu from the opening demos (via hitting the start button), there is an error in the dos window: "recompiler: self modifying code at unknown address"
Additionally, when starting the game: "pos=82725 auto=92030 pos=82725 auto=92030 r3000: executed illegal opcode 00000030 r3000: executed illegal opcode 72a5c008 r3000: executed illegal opcode 000000ff r3000: executed illegal opcode 00000030 r3000: executed illegal opcode 72a5c008 r3000: executed illegal opcode 000000ff r3000: executed illegal opcode 00001074 ps1dmac: read unknown register 078010f8 ps1dmac: write unknown register 078010f8=00000000 spu: unknown reverb ps1dmac: read unknown register 078010f8 ps1dmac: write unknown register 078010f8=00000000 spu: unknown reverb ps1dmac: read unknown register 078010f8 ps1dmac: write unknown register 078010f8=00000000 spu: unknown reverb"
Therefore, the game is still unplayable.
Tried using both bios files (1001 & 7502) the CD-ROM original and the image (both cue/bin and cdz). The above errors are from the cdz.

Do you mean you get these error messages but the game runs, excalibur, or does it fail when you get the error messages, and how?
