If you use magic, there is a sound problem, too. I'm using the European version SLES_02756 and the stairs sound glitch is in the European version, too!

I've been having a fairly serious problem with Vagrant Story (SLUS-01040). I'm using version 1.11 with the SCPH1001 bios. The game will randomly (as far as I can tell it's completely random) studderlock up and spew out pages of errors. It does it with the CD and BIN/CUE.
It's hard for me to actually catch what it says because 80% of the time when it locks, it closes out everything completely by itself.
It says "Error 3000" or "3300" along with "Illegal Code" or "Illegal Operation" with some hex numbers after that and keeps spewing them out while the game itself is studdering. The errors are about too fast to read and then it will sometimes kill itself before I can see it if I'm full-screen'n.
It seems to mostly happen when Ashley Riot gets hit, or traps or when he casts a spell and towards the end of the cast, but I've had it happen while just walking and PSX will just freeze.
I've tried the "-r" switch and I don't notice a difference. Once again, completely random - there's been times where I can play the game for a couple hours with no problems, then other times where three minutes into it.....
I'm wondering if it's not something external to PSX - also, I've never noticed any echo like you guys are talking about, compared to the sound samples provided on earlier posts. The game doesn't sound like that for me.

If you start pSX from a command line window, hguols, you should retain the error messages even after you close the emulator.

Well, I've been using the command window to start the game, but it hasn't messed up since. Did I mention it's random?
I think this is a bug that's afraid of DOS.

I'm wondering if it's not something external to PSX - also, I've never noticed any echo like you guys are talking about, compared to the sound samples provided on earlier posts. The game doesn't sound like that for me. I suppose it's possible that if the CD had issues, any problems with it would've been transferred to a bin/cue? Your problem does sound odd, as nobody has reported anything like that before with this game.
