Anyone know how long before a public beta? Its still early days - I'm not sure yet. But getting FFX running that far is a significant milestone LOL, looking at the screenshots, I see it is Vista compatible as well pSX has always been Vista compatible afaik - I didn't do anything special to get it working. I have a new machine and I'm running Vista x64 now.... Shame those shots don't show the frame rate, let alone psxauthors PC setup It wasn't very fast (maybe 4-5fps) because I'm still getting stuff working (eg. it wasn't using the VU recompiler).

First post here. Yay . Its excellent to hear of the upcoming ps2 features. Be SO GOOD to have a ps1 and ps2 emulator in one for a change. The ps1 emulation is almost flawless other than movie issues in a couple of games, plus one really big one for me which is major gfx issues in xcom 1 that make the game completely unplayable (boxes not highlighting when selected, and so you`ll have no idea what box is currently selected when navigating screens). If it wasn`t for that one unplayable game, then 100% of all my ps1 games would work in the emulator. I`m crossing my fingers and hoping that gets fixed in the next release.

The PS2 stuff is nice but it does concern me.
PS1 support in pSX while stronger then most other emulators is still not great. Except maybe Xebra but thats not a very good gamer emulator. Many high profile games still have issues or just don't work at all. SotN freezing up on dialog screens, Suikoden 2 unable to get passed the first boss, I don't think CTR is working yet, and many others. Some games still show minor issues like Final Fantasy 8 menus being cropped off on the right side of the screen. Most games that are not 320x240 or 640x480 tend to display with incorrect aspect ratio.
My concern is that PS1 support is going to be allowed to come this close only to be neglected and set aside as second priority to PS2 support. Or worst just flat out abandoned. It would not be the first time a PS1 emulator died in favor of a PS2 emulator either. It's your emulator and all so you do whatever you want but I would hate to see that happen.

I think you too worried! Not sure how much more can come out of PS1 emulation to be honest, a guess would be after 13 releases pSXAuthor may have very well got to the point where further compatibility would require more effort than compatibility he would achieve in doing so. PS2 emulation is an excellent way forward and I’ll be hopeful that psxemu will take a different route to achieving its goals. The psx we love does nothing extra with the gfx rendering and pursues a pure emulation approach. I think PCSX2 is much more like epsxe in its approach, so this fresh approach will be very interesting to see evolve. Pity the Emotion engine is such a funny little chip to emulate! Good luck and cheers Author for keeping in touch!

I think someone brought this up earlier when the new ps2 bios format and ripper was made available, but are you planning to support both the old and new bios format?

Well you`d think that of snes emulation by now as well, but new versions still come out for zsnes. I`m hoping that the emulation of the ps1 is not abandoned as that is JUST as important as ps2 emulation. Having 100% emulation of a system is alot better than only 75%.

Agreed.
But a one man band can only do so much.
Imagine if you had to choose which he devoted the most time too!
Maybe I'm lucky here, but the only game i want to work on psxemu that does'nt is Speed Freaks, but atleast I can play it on my ps3!

byuu is a one-man team (with the occasional help from others, though, I suppose), and bsnes came out very beautifully The fear is warranted, but I doubt too much is going to change. Do note this post... Improving PS1 emulation would probably improve PS2 emulation, whether directly or indirectly.

The code that you have seen from the PCSX2 team, have you been inspired by it or taken a different path? Also, are you using your own graphics renderer? If so, have you resolved the screen interlace flicker? I'll try and stop the questioning now!

Considering refraction helped a little on the new PS2 coding in pSX currently (v1.14 I mean), I'd say he was probably inspired whether he took a different path or not. Whatever path is taken, there are some things that would be coded the same way, so looking at some of the code would be helpful either way I'd think.
