Game Title: Legend of Dragoon Game ID(s): SCUS_944.91 pSX Version(s): 1.13
Right after I hit the PS logo after the BIOS loads the CD from both direct image and from the CD backup itself I get a black screen with a red circle in with a line through it with some words that I cannot read... I checked the game, it works in other emulators and in my PS... so I figured it was some sort of emu. issue. Any fixes?

Well known copy protection "issue" - also happens on Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories and some other games.
Use a PAL BIOS (or patch the game) to bypass it when using pSX.
You could have found this out yourself if you had searched the forums.

thanks for letting me know. I did search the forum, but didnt know it was a copyright issue, so I didnt have much to go on. I searched for the problem itself unto my description, but apparently it wasnt enough for me to draw a conclusion, so I just figured I'd ask strange though that epsxe played the game... I just happen to like this emulator better and dont quite care for that one much lol. and after you saying that it was, I quickly found the answer to my question

Don't confuse copyright with copy protection.

Strictly speaking, I think this is a mod protection rather than a copy protection issue. I have seen it suggested that the reason you usually get mod rather than copy protection on US games is that Sony had doubts that copy protection was legal in US law, with the implication that making a backup of your software is legal as fair use. However, they thought that a protection aimed at a user's modding (and hence invalidating the Playstation guarantee) their console would be acceptable.
But Mika is correct: the 'copy' in copy protection has nothing to do with copyright (except as a possible justification). The idea is that it simply prevents you from copying your CD.

I just want you guys to know that every time a Legend of Dragoon thread is started, a little piece of me dies.

Hello Everyone, Have any of you tried to apply the .PPF patch to get the game running on pSX using Ultima's frontend. I know that when i applied the patch WildArms2,Dinocrisis and Crash Bash work for me. here is a link to the .PPF patches www.ngemu.com/misc.php?action=ppfBTW: use the file that is xxxx.ppf on Ultima's frontend>Basic>PPF.

I try to avoid patches whenever possible. And in the case of PS1 games on pSX, it seems that from what I've tested, every NTSC game with an available patch also seems to work just as well (or better, if the patch sucks) with a PAL BIOS.

I rather agree with that, GM; but if a patch fixes it satisfactorily, then why not? However, people might want to take a look at this little discussion here. The gist of it is, when testing games, do so with unpatched games if possible, and make it clear if you have patched your game when reporting.

I didn't start another topic so I won't kill another little piece of smegforbrains. I'm playing the game now, and have several of these notifications: cuebin: read sector out of range (206443, max - 206187) Do I need a switch, or is this normal? pSX 1.13, bios scph7502.bin.

First, donutbandit, which version of the game are you playing (game ID, please!)? And second, does this affect the game. and if so, how?
Edit: are you playing the game from an image? If so, it's possible you have a badly written .cue file: try re-ripping the game if it's a problem.

It's SCUS_944.91. I'm running it in .cdz format. There are music slowdowns, and usually, the music will not begin during a battle until it's my team's turn to attack. I know this game is problematic.

What image did you use to create your .cdz file, donutbandit? Don't forget, that when you have trouble with a .cdz file, you should always check how the image you created it from plays, and how the original CD plays?
