Minimum Required specs still haven't been finalized, but if you compare your specs with those in other parts of the board, like the game compatibility thread, you can get a rough idea.

The game is running much faster on pSX than ePSXE for me... just some slowdowns during the battle intro (not the motion blur effect... its running fast) and the menu, but probably because my PC is not so fast: AthlonXP2000+, 384mb, GeforceFX5200.

Using fullscreen (alt+enter) may make it a bit faster if you aren't doing that already...

I have a Celeron 2.6 Ghz, integrated graphics and 512 of crappy ram and it works perfect. ePSXe runs terribly on this machine.

But I keep ePSXe as well. sPSX rocks and ePSXe is good. However ePSXe is still alive and kicking anyway.

ePSXe still alive, not sure, it's a looong time since the emu didn't got an update. the only thing that keep ePSXe alive (sort of) is the great work of Pete Bernert and his GPU/SPU plugin.

I just have this, because I didn't have either one, currently. I won't bother with getting ePSXe for now.

It works perfectly on psx 1.0 emulator, but in epsxe 1.6.0 runs faster (audio and video), it is noticed perfectly when the characters run and the background music too (without increase FPS) but it has a problem with the "element" menu.
My PC:
Intel P4 3Ghz 1Gb RAM 128MB integrated

Try in fullscreen mode (alt+enter), or disable frame skipping - that should solve the speed problems.
I'll try to make frame skipping in windowed mode better soon.
