Hi all.
First off i just want to say what a great job you have done with your PS1 emulator,
I would just like to ask if that is ok? When will there be a new release? Is PSX still alive?
Many Thanks

... Not a good question to make your first post. Asking questions like that are not good. To answer it...
Yes, pSX is still alive. In fact, pSX Author has very recently stated that the next version will most likely contain movie/AVI capture functionality, so obviously it's very much alive. And considering that statement... I'd imagine he's either close to a release (and thus made the statement because he has it mostly implemented and ready), or release is still a while away (meaning he just started working on that feature and will need time for it).
Either way, just sit tight and enjoy the current version. With any luck, the next version will be out within a couple months at most, though I obviously have no inside information to make that any kind of fact. And before you ask, *nobody* here knows anything more except for pSX Author himself.

pSX is very much alive, worf, and pSX Author posted just the other day saying he was planning to include video capture support in the next version - see this thread. However, you should have read Known Requests before posting: like all the forum documentation, it's linked at the top of every page. pSX Author puts in a lot of hard work on this emulator and will release new versions when he's ready. It's not very polite to pester him about it; even less so to ask whether the emulator is "still alive." I'd suggest you check out the forum documentation before posting again. Edit: beat me to it, GM!

Sorry for sounding inpolite it was not meant to sound that way. I really enjoy using PSX emulator and think that PSXAuthor has done a great job and put in a lot of work into it.
I was just eager to know if it was still alive as there has not been a new release for awhile and i would hate to see it die like a lot of other good emulators.
I will in future keep an eye on the Known Reguests.

The last release was about 6 months ago, worf. That's not a particularly long time.
Unlike many developers, who issue frequent new versions that are really WIPs, pSX Author seems to prefer each new version to be a finished product. If the upcoming version includes video recording; I would bet that it'll work properly straight off rather than require another update or two to get it right.

I totally agree with you patrickp, i would rather have a release that is stable and working first time.

dont worry too much, still alive and kicking strong your ass... simply away from the PSX scene for a "while" and on.

Lets see:
pSX 1.13 was released 6 months ago, and people ask if the project is dead. Now I wonder what people think of:
-Duke Nukem Forever = First announced in 1997, the game is still being produced, and NO ONE knows the release date;
-Too Human = Canned since 1999...
-Starcraft Ghost = This one took a looong time.. I don't even know if it was released or canceled, or if will ever be released;
-EPSXE = The most famous plugin-based emulator saw his last version at 2003, but isn't declared dead yet...
-Vilecore 2 = A megawad for Doom 2 that is being made since 2000...
Lol

hey bit drunk here you see..
i was thinking about one thing.. is it a possibility that pSX will ever go open source?
i remember when zKnight and _Demo_ stopped develop zsnes and was about to abandon it when talks went, why not release it open source? they made a new forum etc just for the talks about make it open source or not, well see how it is now.. it is still getting improved after what can it be 6 years?
one reason i ask is because it is broken in newest fedora linux.. one thing about linux is that there is constant change almost all to the better, but things happens and stuff get broke.. with open source thats no problem, but i think it's absolutely up to the auther what to do with the code, but if there's no thought about selling the code to closed up company or something it's much better to let it go opensource then to abandon it.. look at zsnes it has matured to the extremes and goes with the linux changes all the time.. only because of the community around it.. it's better then ever just building on the blocks from the original zsnes.. i think one reason why they didn't want to release the code in the first place was because of messy code etc.. but in the end that doesn't matter that's why one release it in the first place, there is some guys that are experts on gpu and others on the spc and they will just point it out or fix the code themselves without the original author, thats the beauty of opensource..

See Known Requests, bsund, prominently linked at the top of every page in the forum:
This one is getting really old.
Please read the forum documentation - all linked at the top of every page - before posting again. I think this thread has had its day, too.
