I won't be on all too much for a while. Money is tight, and we had to "suspend" our internet until things get better. Right now, I'm using my Sanyo PM-8200 phone as a modem for the computer. The phone is so old, it was made before Sprint figured out that people could tap into its PCS Vision internet through the computer, so with the right information, it can be used as I'm using it. But of course, the phone has a 2-hour battery life, so it's not like I can be on all too much. It makes me so glad though, that when I got my new Sanyo SCP-8400, I didn't take my old phone off of service. Cuz obviously... you can't do this with that phone... it just came out a few months ago, and Sprint fixed the problems in their phones around 2 years ago... lol.
For anybody curious, I'm running it through a standard USB cable for Sanyo phones, and it seems to give speeds pretty much in the middle, between 56k dial-up and broadband... not fast, but much better than dial-up... pages load usually within 10 seconds at most, with the average seeming to be about 5 seconds. Costs nothing if your phone is old enough to pull it off. You have to have a PCS Vision package on your phone, of course (that should be a given). Apparently, it's most likely to work on older Motorola and Sanyo phones from Sprint... my 8200 wasn't mentioned by anybody as capable of the feat, but I just successfully tried it with mine (which I got November 2004) and my ex-girlfriend's identical phone (which she got May 2005), so it's safe to say that any 8200 would work, and I know the 8100 works. Others too, apparently.
Alright... time for me to sign off for now. Gotta charge the 3 batteries I have for the phone, to give me some good online time tonight... XD

How about running the 'phone off a power supply rather than batteries, GM? And is this your excuse for totally failing to catch up to my post count, as you were supposed to? Edit: in fact, how about running it off your PC power supply, which should be fairly flat and reliable - what voltage/amperage do you need?

Heh I was thinking the same thing -- using an AC adaptor instead... Perhaps the USB wire and power cord can't be plugged in simultaneously because of position? Best of luck, GM, we'll be ready for your big comeback round of posts when everything gets sorted out

My phone has a flat port and a universal port, both used for charging, though the flat port is also the one used for the USB connection. The universal port... is completely non-functional, and even if it wasn't, they are indeed too close together to use at the same time. So I can only do one at a time. What I'd really like to get my hands on is a USB connector that charges at the same time (I *know* they make them... I just have to find them and gather the spare money for it). More that second one... finding it isn't so hard... I'll make do until then.

I have a Sprint PCS Vision enabled phone... it's a Sanyo MM7300 I believe. I use it as a modem occasionally when I'm on the road. It's bad when your mobile phone can offer speeds faster than what's available at your home (fastest I can get here at my house is 28.8...... joy...)
But about the USB cable that charges... I've actually read that those aren't good for the battery, because they can overcharge the battery and destroy it. Of course, that's just what I've read... think it was at sprintusers.com
I won't be with Sprint much longer. My contract expires in March and I will NOT be renewing. Two reasons:
Reason #1. I've been paying every month for an extended warranty service plan... and I understand that there's a deductible when having a phone repaired/replaced... I read that in the fine print. But the problem I'm having with my phone can actually be resolved by using a flat style charger instead of the pin style plug charger. It is $20 at the Sprint Store. I called Sprint and they confirmed that this is a known defect in the design of my phone... that the pin plug in the phone has a short life span and will eventually stop working. But then they tell me they can't help me unless I pay $50 to have my phone repaired. I asked why they couldn't give me (at least) a discount on the flat style charger... they said they couldn't do that and all they could do was give me 200 free minutes for the trouble it was causing me.
Reason #2. My fiance uses Verizon and she wants me to switch. ^_^

Hmm... from what I've been hearing from people, they're supposed to replace that universal port for you... most all Sanyo phones actually have that same short life-span with it. Not to mention... three Sanyo's later, I can tell you for sure that the flat slot charger will give you a much better and fuller charge than the universal port. I've now confirmed this on 7 new batteries for 5 Sanyo phones (one is my ex's phone, one my roommate's phone, 3 are mine). Also, when I got my first two phones, they let me pick out my extra charger at the time (to receive at a discount), and I picked a flat port charger both times (one time for the house, one time for the car, since all my Sanyo's use the same charger).
That's really odd too. Usually if you rant at them enough, they'll give you a nice credit on your account (I usually got $50 - $100)... which would be more than enough compensation for your problem. Maybe you didn't get angry enough...? XD
I probably wouldn't have that over-charge problem, since I'd be using the phone at the same time. But I'll definitely look into that. Thanks.

I actually called twice about the charging issue. The first person told me to goto the Sprint store and they would be able to help me. I went to the Sprint store and the lady told me because I purchased the phone online at sprint.com, I would have to go through the online store to get a replacement charger. So I called the online store and was forwarded to customer service and the guy told me all he could do was to give me free minutes for the trouble, but he couldn't send me a charger or give me a discount. I was going to ask to speak to his supervisor, but I only have a 3 more months left and figured why bother.

Looking at your sig, TheCloud, I'm wondering if you and GM have just swapped usernames...

LOL... on my loser Myspace account, I'm part of the WWCND group... XD.
I do like Chuck Norris movies (and Walker Texas Ranger). But usually I watch more 70's and 80's shows, and of course movies. And his movies fall under the "80's" category. Except for some newer ones, but I don't restrict myself so much.
Yeah, that's the only bad thing about Sprint... their customer service is very poor. Luckily, I very rarely have to use it. So I'm a happy customer.

I was referring to the sigs that many members here will recall you used for a long time, GM. AIR that's how we tracked you from hoshikuzu to Gamesoul Master, and I was wondering if something like that had happened again...? Or maybe TheCloud's planning a name change and wants to be trackable? Just make sure he doesn't call himself hoshikuzu...
