I've personally been using cdrwin, I'm happy enough with the quality of the dumps which won't get propogated anywhere else.
Cdrwin is still a good util (well the goldenhawk version is), and the only limitation in the shareware version is the burn speed and as I won't be burning the images to cdr that doesn't matter. I've found it far less temperamental in reading in psx cds than isobuster - and at the end of the day cdrwin is tried and tested in the old murky psx world.

Yes, pugsy, I've noticed an organisation called Engelmann Media seems to be offering something called CDRWIN; since their product is at version 6 and the real CDRWIN at Golden Hawk is only version 4, I'm somewhat dubious of their credibility... It seems to me that the best rippers for hard-to-copy discs seem to be CDRWIN, CloneCD and Alcohol 120% and 52%. I've used CloneCd for a long time; it's certainly a good product; the DVD region killing and copying applications offered by Slysoft are also excellent. The one drawback for many people is that it only rips to its own proprietary .ccd/.img/.sub format. However, since this is the only format pSX recognises that supports subcode reading, it does for me. The versions of Alcohol, of course, are well known for supporting several formats, including the CloneCD one. I'm curious, though - a quick look through the Golden Hawk site doesn't tell me what formats CDRWIN supports - can you tell us?

Well as far as I'm aware CDRWIN (the proper V4 goldenhawk one) only supports .bin & .cue. Which isn't surprising as cdrwin is responsible for the creation of the .cue .bin format.
Obviously it can't deal with subcode based protection, but there are ppf patch files available that will patch the bin file to remove the protection for a number of subcode protected games, some of these patches also add trainer menus to the games though I could do without the intros they also added.
I am surprised that cdrwin does a better job then isobuster in reading in psx discs...I've never tried CloneCD or Alcohol so I can't comment on how good they are. There are a couple of psx discs I copied in the past so that I could add trainers to and the Easy CD writing program I used wrote them in TAO mode, cdrwin seems to have no problems imaging them whilst isobuster dies near the end of the data track.

Maybe we can start doing pSX database on psx dumps. Lets forget about the tracks and start compare the whole games rips instead. I don't mind put up a website.
What rules should we use? If this is a good idea.
1. We want pictures taking from a camera. (No scans. We want real proof.)
2. Use Alcohol, CloneCD, IsoBuster or Cdrwin. (Please tell us what your using to dump on each game.)
3. Dump it and then send the infos that is shown from HashCalc.
4. We want id that is hidden in the cds. Like SLUS_013.24.
5. Name of the game.
6. Greatest Hits or Normal or what ever shown on the case or book. (This will give us more proof which is dump.)
7. Use psxt001z.exe "XXXX.bin" to get the infos.
8. Do not send the games dumps. We don't want those post here or anywhere. Against of rules.
Just a idea.

About the number 4 item:
The game ID would be better listed as the one printed on the CD and the cover. Some games also have a PSX.EXE instead of the SYSTEM.CNF and GAME_000.00 executable.
Tekken 1 (NTSC J) is one of these games - the ID is SLPS-91020 as per the "PlayStation the Best" cover and the disc, but the memory card save shows the ID of SLPS-00040, which was from the original version. Identifying a game by the SCES/SLUS or CNF file isn't always the smartest thing; for example both [pec] and the ePSXe netplay plugin can't identify the game at all. Unfortunately I don't have that game anymore, someone bought it from me (ironically I now have a Japanese SCPH-7500 PSX in my possession with no more games to test; my PAL games don't work on it!).
Would "standard" 2048-byte audio track dumps be tolerated here, rather than those elongated EAC ones?

Some games are like that. They just change the file id and stuffs before re-release.
Sometimes they re-release the games with same id, different cover and different cd. Like the Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy Tactics Greatest Hits have same id and tracks. I'm learning these things.

Ok I no longer will support PSXDB with the tracks infos. I rather not burn up my good drive. But I will help with the single track though. It is pain in the butt ripping the tracks. If you want to do this the right way then dump into full game image instead of burning up the drive by dumping every single tracks.
I'm official will open my psx images infos database soon. I'm plaining on it. Screw the tracks dumping. Main thing is to worry about the full dump instead of tracks.
