I'm looking to buy usb joypad to replace the pad converter I use mostly because I've learned that some pc games don't like converters. I also don't like to switch back and forth with my single ps2 pad when I want to play something on my actual ps2. So I'm looking for some recommendations. I remember that atleast Patrick has a pad that he keeps in very high regard, Logitech something something 2 maybe? Anyone else?

Yes, the Logitech Rumblepad 2, the wired version, Mika. I've always found the analog control (and rumble in Windows) to be very accurate and work well, and the controller seems pretty durable.
It also has a nice feature in the Mode button: this enables you to swap function between the digital direction control and the first analog stick. That means that, in a digital-only game, you can press the Mode button and use the first analog stick as the directional controller - much nicer than a directional pad, to my mind.
I used to have a Logitech Dual Action, on which the analog controls gradually went doolally. I understand this problem is fixed now, and some versions also have the Mode button. Since the other difference between the Rumblepad2 and the Dual Action is that this controller doesn't have rumble, it might do just as well in Linux. I haven't tried one of these versions to compare, though.

I had one of those defective Dual Actions as well. The mode button sounds like a neat idea. The new versions of the Logitech game profile software thing has that same function in software mode. Lenghtened the life of Dual Action a bit when I could just swap the defective left stick to digital. Games that default to analog if they find it (even if they don't really need it) would then work with the pov hat. Helped enormously when configuring emulators as well, the busted analog would always interfere when setting buttons. Anyway, Rumblepad 2 has been added to the list. ;D Oh, actually, Cordless Rumblepad 2 added to the list. I'm going as wireless as possible.

I love my Cordless Rumblepad 2; I even use rechargeable batteries in it, and the thing hasn't melted yet (rechargeables aren't recommended).

Just a little update, I bought the Cordless Rumblepad 2 few weeks ago, and I couldn't be more satisfied with it. It's just great.
