See here, joshuax. The reasons you don't see excitement ATM is because this announcement was a couple of months ago, because most of us knew pSX Author was planning Playstation 2 emulation quite a while back and because it'll be some time yet before Playstation 2 emulation will be an accomplished addition to the emulator.

I just want to know the name of the game that works so I can see it for myself!
pSX Author has stated in the past that there is already one PS2 game that sort of works in current pSX.
Or was it two games, I don't remember.
It seems not many people are aware of this, PS2 emulation has actually been in pSX for a while but you can only start it from the command line.
pSX is so a cool already, I think many little heads will explode around the world (and especially here in Brazil) when it can run PS2 games as well. ;D
Anyway - PCSX2 is improving all the time, in fact I've already finished Katamari Damacy on it, apart from random spiky polygon glitches and movies not working it ran really well.
So either way, it's good times in the emu sk3ne.

Sh**t Patrick, you're clocking 4,000 posts already.
It seems like yesterday we started out here..

I know the reason *I'm* not too excited about it. Just about everybody who would want PS2 emulation already has a PS2. It'll be neat to have, if only to show off, but by the time it becomes something practical to use (and PCSX2 is by no means practical to use), we'll already have the PS4, and whatever sequel they make for the PSP will probably be able to play PS2 games the same way the PSP plays PS1 games now.

Well, granted.. PS2 emulation would be nice. (Gradius 5 in progressive scan on a nice computer monitor!)
However, as it goes, I've got a 160GB IDE drive in my actual PS2 and I run most of my games off that (HDLoader) so there's really not that much incentive.
I mean, for PS1 the computer is much more convienent and reliable-- I've gone through no less than six PS1 units, at least three of which were DoA, and one that died in mod attempt. I've got a working PS1, but the drive is really flaky. Conversely, I've got two working PS2 units, and both are absolutely fine-- they still read CDs just fine too.

i'm very excited for decent ps2 emulation. still have my ps2 hooked up to my system, but it's already showing slight problems (bought it when it launched) and (as with my ps1 discs) i would love to rip all my ps2 games to my harddisk so they can all be stored safely, not getting scratched and whatnot.

I agree with the use of HDLoader firehawke. I've always found it to be a lot faster than using ISOs on PCSX2, even at full speed. Maybe the speed of disc reading in emulation could be improved one day, like Sony did to the PSP's PS1 emulator for PSN games. (feel free to counter this statement)
I'd certainly like to see PS2 emulation for pSX (still a blank screen with only sound). Who knows what the future will hold?
