Are you playing from a disc image or original disc? If an image, it sounds like you may need to re-rip it. Or maybe your drive doesn't support subcode data (which is usually required to get past copy/mod protection, which FFIX PAL is known to have). If you're playing from the original disc, try using a different disc drive if you have one, or try ripping a ccd/img/sub image. Might be worthwhile to try ASPI instead of IoControl too, in that case.

Using ASPI is an option in the configuration menu on the CD-ROM tab. You may have to acquire an ASPI layer... this is the Nero one, which is pretty much the best and easiest one to use. Simply put it in the same folder as pSX. It might not help, but it's worth a shot. When you say you tried making an image, what do you mean? Were you not able to make it, or did it simply not work any better than playing from disc?

Have you tried FFVII with both an image and the original CD? And are you using the PAL version of this game too?

I originally obtained FF7 via internet, so i cant tell if it is an original rip or already been patched and it display squaresoft europe so i presume its a PAL version, I have both image and cd tried both but i still have the same problem whilst in FF9 the video/amv/cutscene run all so well

Well that is probably the problem. Users of the PAL version around here have reported absolutely no problems with the opening movie, so unfortunately it is probably simply a bad image.
For the record, the -r switch would normally be used to fix problems with FMV's, but that of course wouldn't fix graphical glitches (it usually seems to fix playability issues as well as speed issues and general A/V problems relating to the FMV). However, considering it seems to be a bad rip you have of the game, it probably wouldn't help.

I can't find any "PAL" codes, so I'm not sure if both regions use the same codes for this game or not. You'll have to tell me after trying this code:
8007AFA8 0000 8007AFAA FF00 8007AFAC FFFF

sorry but it doesnt... i dotn know if i do it right though, reading the the instruction and comparing how the default cheat codes are typed in in CEP.
EDIT: is there any limit on how many unsolved chocographs you can stock in your inventory, its' like i have 5 unsolved chocographs and moogle tells me that choco cant currently find anymore chocographs...

I don't recall there being a limit. Been a few years since I played through though, so I could be wrong.
Not sure what to say about the codes. I could try finding PAL codes, but it seems near-impossible, so that's why I thought maybe they're universal for this game.

yea i've been finding pal codes for 5 hours straight from the time i asked for the codes though, but now i comopleted all chocograph and chocograph pieces for disk 1.
Been reading a walkthrough and it states that there are 9 treasures that you can redeem and obtained at disk one-dont know for sure but mogli says choco cant find anymore chocographs in forest so i pressume i should proceed to the story line then.
Now am more inclined in doing card battles, are there any good card player in linblum at disk 1?
EDIT: can i play ps2 games in psx emulator? if so would they all run smooth?

I wouldn't have noticed this if mtatomic64 hadn't revived this thread but: I originally obtained FF7 via internet, so i cant tell if it is an original rip or already been patched and it display squaresoft europe so i presume its a PAL version, I have both image and cd tried both but i still have the same problem whilst in FF9 the video/amv/cutscene run all so well ramiia, you should have read Downloading Playstation games is illegal and not tolerated here. If this was your thread, I would have archived it; however, it isn't. Please read the forum documentation before posting again, and do not make posts that may bring the forum into disrepute. I'm giving you a 5% warning: any repetitions on this behaviour will result in a ban. Edit: on revisiting this thread, I realised it is your thread, ramiia. I should tell you that, apart from the illegality of downloading Playstation games, there's another reason we wouldn't support downloaded games and that is that they are frequently faulty. The PAL version of Final Fantasy IX is copy protected; in fact, its protection is considered to be one of the more difficult ones to crack. One of the main issues with ripping protected games is that you have to rip them carefully, and what bozo ripping games for posting on illegal sites is going to bother? Additionally, the fact that your image has been burnt to a DVD (so it must be a single image for the whole 4 CD game?) means that considerable changes must have been made to it, and it's unlikely this has been done properly. Trying to give help for faulty games is a waste of time because the fault is in the game and nothing to do with the emulator. I just had a quick look on ebay, and new and sealed copies of this game are available from £23.00 - not a bad price for a 4 CD game. Used ones are even cheaper, but for the native Playstation Final Fantasy games (i.e. Final Fantasies VII, VIII and IX) I'd recommend new copies if possible - these games are very susceptible to being affected by surface damage. Buying a new copy not only means you're able to play the game legally, it means you can rip it yourself - which is the only way to ensure a good rip. Thread locked and archived - patrickp
