Good Morning: * I am interested in trying out this new PSX emulators. I tried to install "PSX_1_3.RAR" and run "PSXFIN.EXE" from the RAR and received the following message: "A required .DLL file, D3DX9_26.DLL was not found." Then, according to the author's instructions I attempted to install DirectX from the "D3DX9_dll_update.zip" and after running "Installer\DXSETUP.EXE" in an attempt to install it returned back: "DirectX could not find a file necessary for installation." "Installation failed." Could some knowledgeable person please help me get this thing up and running ? Thanks David

Goto www.microsoft.com/directx/ and download the full version of Direct X 9. The Author's instructions just takes you to get the required DLL file, in which may not work, esp. if its on DX8 or lower.

Hello, and thank you TrueXUnknown ! I have been able to see the opening PSX LOGO and request for Disc. I also cannot seem to directly access my CD drive. When I try EJECT it doesn't which shows that something is wrong with the reader in the program I think.
Further I tried to convert a *.BIN file I downloaded but it said it was invalid.
Okay, now I have several true PSX games (with the black-backing). By a careful investigation I see that none of the games I have contain ether *.BIN or *.CUE on them.
Example, I have Nascar Rumble which is a 3-D game. The contents on it are:
Volume in drive D is RUMBLE Volume Serial Number is 74BF-B2D1 Directory of D:\
CW <DIR> 12-29-99 4:39p CW DUMMY DAT 27,648,000 12-23-99 5:38p DUMMY.DAT GLBLDATA PSX 12,853,248 12-22-99 2:59p GLBLDATA.PSX SLUS_010 68 655,360 12-29-99 4:00p SLUS_010.68 SYSTEM CNF 66 11-22-99 7:12p SYSTEM.CNF 4 file(s) 41,156,674 bytes 1 dir(s) 0 bytes free
How do I run a true PSX game like this ?
Sincerely, David

Try installing this (ASPI Drivers), and and see if you can run off the Discs. NOTE: Read the "readme" in the download.

davidw817, downloading .bin files (or any sort of files) of Playstation games is illegal in most countries; they are copyrighted games. You shouldn't do it, and nor should you discuss it here. This is a legitimate emulation forum, not some dodgy 'warez' site. Additionally, in pSX emulator, the .bin file by itself is no use; you need the .cue file that comes with it, too. One of the nice things about having a CD-based game system like the Playstation is that you don't need any special equipment to rip your own games. There are several applications, some free, around that you can rip CDs to isos with. Some Playstation emulators can use different CD images, but pSX emulator can only use bin/cue files ATM. You could try using something like Burnatonce, from www.burnatonce.com/index.htm?news, which is a free application that will rip CDs to bin/cue files.

When I try EJECT it doesn't which shows that something is wrong with the reader in the program I think. The eject menu item does not actually eject the CD from the drive. Its more of a "virtual" eject - it ejects the CD on the PS1 if you see what I mean... You can insert either images, OR real CDs into the PS1's virtual CD drive by selecting "Insert image file", or "Insert CD drive".

You shouldn't do it, and nor should you * Nice try, Patrick P: I am referring to public-domain PSX roms, you can find some here, please don't make wild accusations. www.megagames.com/psx/psx_demos.shtml* If it can't run *.BIN DEMOS what CAN it run ? * What about the legitimate playstation games I have purchased ? Can it run any of those with the absence of *.BIN and/or *.CUE for LEGITIMATE purchased games ? Sounds to me like more emphasis on NOT running games with the fear of them being pirated rather than the wide diversity of PSX games that I fully purchased through Gamestop that just do not have those two files on them. Now EPSXE and PSXEVEN DO run my commercial games so there is something amiss in this emulator if for whatever reason it can't run purchased games that have exceeded beyond the need for early PSX games that relied on *.CUE and *.BIN to drive them. Shall I list ALL the purchased games I have that do not have either *.CUE or *.BIN on them ? Incidentally that DOS directory listing above are the exact contents on the disc of the legitimate purchased NASCAR RUMBLE videogame. David

You misunderstand. .BIN/.CUE does not refer to files on the game CD itself. Put your PSX game CD in your CD/DVD drive and use a CD-imaging program (such as UltraISO) or a CD burner application to create images of the game CDs (this process is normally referred to as 'ripping'). The format of the image must be .BIN/.CUE. Then "insert" the cd image in the emulated PSX to play the game. -Sune

Unless this emulator is REALLY new, it should be able to play the real McCoy (inserting a real PSX disc in your drive and play it) without a conversion. If this is a limitation of the system presently then well, I applaud the good work done on it as it truly does look written well but future requests and not just from me will undoubtedly want it to run an inserted real purchased disc not requiring a lengthy file conversion. Currently PSXEven and EPSXE can run the game directly reading it from the drive without conversion, but they appear to be emulators whereas this program (seems?) to be an intelligent and raw dump of the PSX chip system itself. If this kind of compatibility is not on the author's mind, it might be something to consider for future versions of this unique release. Sincerely, David

I did a lengthy conversion to a BIN file using the BurnAtOnce program and it still didn't want to run it, AND the BIN was generated from one of my purchased games. I look forward with eager anticipation to future versions of this unique program. Sincerely, David

What happens when you put the CD in your drive, start the emulator, select "Insert CD drive" from the file menu, then select your CD drive? (does anything get printed in the console window?)

After you selected the cd drive, press ok then select "reset" and the game should start.

You don't need to reset the emulator...
