Game Title: Final fantasy 8 Game ID(s): SLES_020.80 pSX Version(s): Linux 1.13
Is it the PAL-E You can't complete the game, it not continues after a Movie in CD3, in the "base lunagate (moongate?)" when the moon cry monsters to the planet.. after that, the game is working but you cannot move squall, and nothing happens, just keep like that all the time.
Tested with cd, tested with image load, and still happens.
edit: forgot to say, it was loaded from memory card, not savestates fault.
Indeed, FF8 is known to freeze at that point in pSX. I know you're playing the PAL version, but according to the NTSC-U compatibility list, the -ci commandline option may help you get past that point without a freeze. Have you tried it?

Somewhere on these forums, is more in-depth discussion about this freeze issue on this version. Too tired to search it out for you, but that search may yield useful information (after you try Ultima's suggestion, as it's one of the best ones to try first).

The saame happened to me at that point. What i did was used the fast forward button to fly through the fmv and then magically the game worked afterwards.
Not saying that it'll definately work for you but its worth a shot

Agreed. Having looked at that thread (and being reminded of that specific situation at the time of the thread), I do recall that after many more tries, I ended up getting past it with fast forwarding (might've even posted that somewhere, but I can't remember). I don't remember if I threw in any of the other tricks though (like the -ci switch).
I do wonder how that happens though. Seems to be a really odd error (which would normally be attributed to a bad/scratched disc if it didn't happen to everybody). Makes you wonder if maybe the master disc had a problem on it that ended up getting transferred to all the pressed discs.

One thing that strikes me as odd is that the same bug happens on VGS Emulator, and DID happened to me once on my PS2.
Normally, to pass this bug on pSX, I just soft reset the game (by pressing L1+2+R1+2+square+circle+X+triangle) and load from the memory card. It ALWAYS works for me. But if I hard reset and load the game, the game will crash.
I'm outa here. Since the author doesn't even have a little respect for the people who decided to follow his project, WHY should we still come here?
i'm actually having problems with ff8 too, whenever i enter a battle sequence it never shows the HUD i'm already pretty far on disc one and got along alright by memorizing the menus, but i wanna be able to see what i'm doing pretty soon or i won't be able to survive against the tougher enemies lol
if anyone can find out the problem then you'd have my eternal gratitude C=
bios\SCPH1001.BIN (i don't know if that makes sense to you)
and as for the game version, all i know is that its a PAL version. if you want i could upload the game and bios somewhere and give you a link so you could review it

Ohh...
Ok, thats the problem: this forum deals with a psx emulator called "pSX Emulator". We have NOTHING to do with EPSXE.
Also, avoid things like "I'll upload the game for you". This kind of talk is frowned uppon here, as its piracy.
BTW, by looking at your EPSXE config, I can only say some things:
1. Offscreen Drawing, I recomend using the third option (enhanced). ANd select 2 and 3 for the framebuffer options;
2. You are using an old video plugin. Use version 1.76;
3. Why don't you use a software plugin? PEoPS, for example, is nice, and its less buggy than this. Even better: why don't you give "pSX Emulator" a try? It has THE stupidiest name ever, but its THE best PSX emulator around. And FF8 works nice with it. psxemulator.gazaxian.com/
ANYWHO, I rarelly use EPSXE, so if my hints can't help you, go to www.emuforums.com. People there are @sses, but at least some of them can help.

Actually psicomaniaco, you gave pretty much all the best advice for getting around that problem, as I would've suggested changing the same exact settings. Except that (unless something came out recently, I'm pretty sure I have the latest ones) the latest Pete OGL plugin I have is 1.77 (and the latest PEoPS OGL one I have is 1.78). But it's also possible that something newer is out there, or that I have some unofficial build or something. Who knows... I just use what works best for me usually.
However, if you have a newer computer (pretty much anything made in the last few years should suffice), you should probably try the software renderer first before anything else. In my experience, it runs most games so much more "perfectly" than any of the hardware plugins. The trade-off, of course, is it puts a *major* load on your CPU. But even with my processor (which was somewhat poor even when I got it over a year ago), I can play most games with the HQ filters and still be running at full speed.
But yes, above all, I'd like to second the recommendation for just using pSX. Except for pretty much one hard spot on disc 3 (which you can use ePSXe to pass), the game is very playable...
thx guys, i actually got the pSX emulator a couple hours after my last post because i realised that thats what this forum was about, i got ePSXe from a torrent and it had a notepad document that said the its mothersite was this forum so i just came here lol. but yeah, pSX looks a bit more rough for the characters than ePSXe but everything else is just so much better and the HUD works too =D
