I am running pSX 1.13 Windows XP SP2. My PC has 2Gb RAM, an AMD Athlon 2.4Ghz proc and and Nvidia GeForce 7300GT (256Mb). The game is Metal Gear Solid SLES_01370. Tried running both from CD and from ISO, using different BIOS (scph1000, scph1001 and scph7502) and also with pSX 1.12. In every case when i try to save (tried creating memcards .bin and .mcr and saving on slot 2) i get an error (well, actually with scph7502 the game won't see the memcard at all: it freezes on the "checking memory card" screen and it says "translate_address: illegal physical address 042d2f1e"). But I have not been having the problems listed in the master compatability list. Am I the only one experiencing this problem? Anyway the savestates worked perfect so far, so it's no big deal. (Sorry about eventual bad English but i'm italian and I'm not sure if I remember English correctly xD).

Has the memory card been formated in the BIOS? (Basically just opening the Memory Card section and then exiting, it doesn't say much)

Lol, that's the problem. Thanks a lot for the fast answer Sorry about opening this useless topic. (I kinda feel bad about this because I searched a lot but I didn't figure out the format thing, silly me :/) Anyway, i got another nooby problem xD: where am I supposed to format the memory card from? Through pSX? Because when i open pSX and i get in the ps1 BIOS, the emu doesen't recognize any button, until the actual game is started...

To be "in the BIOS" means to not load any game, and just let pSX keep running until you get to that purple menu... So I'm not sure how you would be waiting until a game loaded unless you actually loaded the game (meaning, you're not viewing the BIOS menu).

My bad, I meant "until I insert a CD and a game starts". In the sense that controls, both from controllers or keyboard, aren't recognized while not running a game. Actually, in the BIOS menu there isn't even the usual little arrow o.O But I'm pretty sure this is because I forgot to do something obvious that I can't figure out >_> Once again, thanks for the kind answer.

Weird then... How have you set the controls up? And I think some of the older BIOS menus don't support analog input (though that should only affect the analog sticks)...

Aha! That did the trick, i needed to switch the controller type from analog+rumble to normal pad.
Now I went into the memory card section, only I still can't save the game (on the same memcard files I had before, of course). It won't save even with a .mcr file (from epsxe) that works with pSX and Crash 2.

Does the problem persist even when you start a new game (and don't load from save state)?

Then the save state must be storing an invalid state for the memory card slot. In which case there may not be a whole lot you can do about it. Maybe while in-game, make sure the card is loaded, then press Eject in the memory card manager, then go back in game for a few seconds, then load the card again, and wait for the next save spot in the game to see if the problem persists then?

Already tried, didn't work, but now I know what I did wrong and I can eventually play other games correctly Thanks to all of you Also, i just finished the game xD. The whole thing worked absolutely perfect (but the save thingy 'cause of me of course xD) but some really minor sound issues (sometimes it emitted a wierd "beep" and there was an annoying echo in a couple cutscenes).

Weird then... How have you set the controls up? And I think some of the older BIOS menus don't support analog input (though that should only affect the analog sticks)... US BIOSes don't support analog input either, at least through the SCPH-7000(first model sold in a DualShock bundle). If the controller is in DualShock mode, it can see NO input. I don't believe ANY PS1 BIOS supports Dual Analog or DualShock input, because it isn't usually a visible problem. Official DualShock pads(and Dual Analog pads, if I'm not mistaken) are soft-switchable, and start in digital mode. It only switches to analog mode when the game turns said mode on. So on a REAL PS1, you only see this problem with some specific third-party pads(some use the standard soft-switching mechanism, some use a physical switch and aren't software-controllable).
