Heys. I first want to thank the pSX Emulator author very much for writing the emulator! I've had many hours of fun with it this week, replaying old games I thought I'd never enjoy again since my poor old Playstation gave up the ghost years ago.
But I've encountered an intermittent problem when starting the emulator that I'm hoping someone in the community can give me feedback on. It appears to be an issue with the emulator itself, rather than with any game, because it's occurring without any game loaded.
Sometimes, when I start the program (psxfin.exe, from a folder on my desktop), it runs at about only 75% speed. The graphics change more slowly, and the sound is drawn out unbearably. Games will load, but it would not be a play experience anyone would enjoy.
When I hit 'tab' to see the program state, when the emulator is running normally, it looks like this of course:
But when the program is behaving abnormally, there is a difference. The frames per second have dropped from around 60 to around 40, and the skipscore increases indefinitely. It will continue to increase for as long as I have the program open. The sound entry is also different:
This issue occurs a little over half the times I open the program. It happens sometimes even when I have no other applications open - oddly, it seems to happen less frequently when a memory hog like Firefox is open, so I don't think it's a system load issue.
I'm running a pretty new machine, put it together just last month:
Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
3.0GHz processor (AMD Phenom II X3 740)
8 GB RAM
(Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot S&D for virus protection)
If anyone has any insight to offer, I'd appreciate it. Usually I sit there re-opening the program until it starts properly, or I go make a sandwich and come back and it works fine when I try it again. It can get pretty frustrating, and I'd love to hear what I can do differently to get 100% performance all the time.
Thank you!
