When starting up pSX with SCPH-5502, it displays these error messages and halts:
translate_address: illegal physical address 011a3800
r3000: executed illegal opcode
0053de3e 76ff2074 ff6650fe ff6a0676 549d681e 54a0681e 009a010e 740053da 7e836623 0676ff66 57ec8b55 06768b56 53d23639 ff83f88b
Maybe my file is bad, can anyone else verify this?

That definately looks like a corrupt/incorrect BIOS file...

ePSXe didn't like it either, so it's been canned.
Thanks!

I got a large bios pack. Most of them were junk. Here's what i verified to work: (haven't completely tested them all but atleast theys start the emu) SCPH1001 wow, what a secret ROFL! -sorry bad joke.SCPH-1001 is an USA (NTSC) BIOS. *recommended default SCPH-5500 is a JAPAN (J/NTSC) BIOS. SCPH-7000 is a JAPAN (J/NTSC) BIOS. SCPH-7001 is an untested ENGLISH (?) BIOS. SCPH-7003 is an untested ENGLISH (?) BIOS. And scph-1001 also runs PAL games without probs. It's basicly like having a chipped PS. Region free.

For the great majority of games, you'd probably only ever need three: 1001 (NTSC-U), 7000 (NTSC-J), and 7502 (PAL). And even then, yeah, 1001 seems to work for most every game. At this point, I don't think I'm going to bother with switching the BIOS before testing games from other regions, as I haven't run into any problems so far. But, if I do, I'll certainly make a note of it.

This is all based on what I noticed. The Last Digit marks the region, 0 for Jap, 1 for USA, and 2 for Europe.

I myself find 7502 to be the most compatible. I only have used two bios files, 7502 is my first choice, and 1001 for a backup option, never needed any other, and this holds true (for me anyway), in any emu I have tried.

My SCPH-5502 bios works fine, so your one is definitely corrupt.
