Vib-Ribbon runs PERFECTLY. Glitches here and there, but normally runs perfectly.
The problem is, the best feature of the game: "Play with own CD" mode, is not supported by pSX 1.8, since it has no music CD support. Could this be fixed in any later versions?

You haven't given much information about how you're playing the game, blackbird22 (see the stickies in Game Compatibility - which is also where you should post a game report), but if you're playing from an image without a .cue file, that may well be the reason why you can't use "Play with own CD."

I inserted an actual music CD, no recognition. And, no, I'm using MDS. Probably why it won't run.
And besides, this didn't really fit there.

What exactly are you doing? (explain every step you took and which menu options you selected).

I think, pSX Author, that although blackbird22 describes it as "the best feature of the game" - which also led me to think he was talking about playing music tracks on a game CD - he's actually talking about the function a Playstation has of playing a music CD in BIOS. I tried that myself and, no, it doesn't seem to work. Small loss. You have a PC, you have a CD/DVD drive in it and you don't have access to an application that plays CDs?
I suppose one could say that, to emulate the Playstation perfectly, you should also emulate that function, but...

Just to explain, patrickp, the "Play with own CD" option means you can stick an Audio CD in your Playstation while you are playing Vib Ribbon, and listen to that instead of the music from the game, patrickp.
But yes, patrickp, pSX gives me an "ISO9660: incorrect header" error if i start it with a real Audio CD. I didn't try with a cue/bin, patrickp.

Also: the BIOS CD player should be working as of v1.8...

@psx Author: Ah, now you mention it, I notice that the BIOS CD player is mentioned in the readme for 1.8. It doesn't seem to work for me, though - I can get into it, but nothing else, except to move the cursor around and use the Exit button. I tried it with a number of different BIOSs, too. I'd forgotten, since I've been looking at the SCPH1001 display in pSX for the last 8 months, that the European displays were quite different! Sune: just to satisfy my curiosity, how do you continue playing the game with a music CD stuck in the drive?

pSX author:
The emulator doesn't continue to the CD player menu with an audio CD inserted - it looks like it thinks my audio CD's are games. When I start with one (or insert one when the BIOS finishes loading), it goes straight to the playstation logo screen but doesn't display the logo, the screen is black with "Playstation(tm)" and "SCEA(tm)" and sometimes some garbage graphics. Using different BIOS'es doesn't change anything.
patrickp:
I guess it loads the game content into memory and runs it from there.

Yeah, it probably does. BTW, the CD I'm trying to use is Innuendo by Queen. Also, I try to put the disc in my PS2, and rather than recognizing it as a game CD, it recognizes it as an audio CD. All options are the SAME as they were originally, just a few modifications in controller configuration.
(BTW, I got this off the web. Getting Vib Ribbon over here in South America is quite improbable.)

You need to do this: boot Vib Ribbon, select the "Play with own CD" option. Select File/Eject CD. Select File/Insert CD Drive, select your CD drive. Then it should work... at least it does for me.

the CD I'm trying to use is Innuendo by Queen. We need a compatibility list for Audio CDs. ;D -Sune

I just tested the CD player on v1.8, and it worked fine for me, after trying a few things. I used the DTLH3000 (US) BIOS, but the only way it worked was if I started the emulator without loading anything, then selected "CD Player" from the BIOS menu. *Then* I loaded the original audio CD (Eminem - Curtain Call, my friend's CD). It played back perfectly fine. Doing it any other way will cause the above reported actions to happen.
I also tested it using SCPH1001 (US), DTLH3002 (EU), and SCPH7502 (EU) using the above-mentioned method... all worked perfectly fine. I must add that DTLH3002 has the weirdest looking BIOS I've ever seen. I prefer the look to what all the other BIOS menus look like, though.
Edit: That Eminem CD, btw, isn't an enhanced CD. So, thinking that maybe pSX can't handle enhanced CD's, I tested Linkin Park - Meteora (an enhanced CD, of course). Using the above method with all 4 BIOS tested above, it worked just as well as the Eminem CD. So... I guess that's that. The CD playback feature seems to work perfectly fine.

Yes, that's pretty much the standard European BIOS format, GM. I notice SCPH7502 has the American-style BIOS; all the other European BIOSs I've tried have the European format. So does my old SCPH5552 Playstation. Most of my CDs are bebop, so defintely no enhancement - but the BIOS CD player still doesn't work for me. Edit: it _does_ work! I looked at your post more carefully, GM, and realised I had to do Insert CD and select the drive with the CD in _after_ loading the BIOS... however, having just resurrected it, I tried it on my Playstation first (to ensure it was a disk that would play in a Playstation ) and put Milestones in... that was another 3/4 of an hour... tried the emulator, and it still wouldn't work 'till I tried it the GM way Only problem is, the emulator won't play when it doesn't have the focus, so I'm running it in Winamp now... yes, I tried unticking Pause when not focused and Sleep when idle.
