I have to agree with all of you - for one thing I think this is by far the BEST PS1 emu ever, However I am also going to have to agree with maclop - the quality of the game visuals are nice to have also - sorry pSX Author, I'm not trying to piss you off - but hoping to see graphic improvments and options in future releases, please and thank you for all your HARD work.
Well, look at the NES emulators, for example. They have everything. You can set "no filter", you can set "hq filter", and some people (who i think are crazy) even set "scanlines 50%" filter. You can choose whatever suits your current(?) needs.
personally i think the graphics look WAY better in psx than in any other emulators that filter the textures and the REASON is because the textures are originally of such a low resolution that they end up looking fugly when they're filtered and then displayed at a much higher resolution. obviously, right? they just aren't crisp and clean like everyone would THINK they should be or LIKE them to be.
anyways i think of it like this... look at a painting of monet and then ask yourself if you could improve on it? of course you couldn't. it was meant to be viewed the way you see it. the playstation's graphics in a way are an impressionist's work of art. that's what i think anyways

I think it's pretty obvious that this emulator is aiming for high compatibility over any graphical boost to the original PSX graphics. Especially when you consider that most attempts to increase the graphical fidelity tend to result in compatibility errors. So you're better off using ePSXe for that, since it's pretty clear that the author of pSX isn't planning on introducing any form of 3d hardware acceleration.
There's the possibility of some software based filtering options (though they'd chew up CPU power quite a bit), but even then it'd have to be pretty low on the list of priorities. There's a whole heap of other issues that need to be looked at first. Or that's the way it looks to me.
i've used epsxe but this emu has completely replaced it - I probably won't use it anymore because of this emu - i was just trying to spark some new ideas - please disreguard the previous post if you read it - since been deleted (I meant no offence) - thanks
