Everyone knows how non-awesome proboards are, right? Would anyone, users and the admin folk, be interested in the some other forum software? The thing is, I have this webspace with 2gigs of bandwitdth to spare per month, and if you are interested, I could set up a "real" forum (phpbb, punbb) for pSX in there.
Pros: Real forum software. Lots of stuff for the admins to tinker with and whatnot. FTP access to the space. And stuff.
Cons: Proboards don't allow user/forum data transfer (again, because they suck ;D ), so basically it would all have to be created from scratch and all, but of course all important stuff would be easy to copy paste over, afterall the bbcode is pretty much universal between every single bb out there.
I'm not actually 100% sure if I could make this happen (can't seem to get any new ftp accounts to work, have to msn the support), but if it were a possibility, would you be interested? Or is it just too much trouble?

Well, if not, you could always start up your own forum anyway, Mika. I'm sure that, apart from anyone else, me & GM would be along to generally insult you, hijack threads etc... ;D

I don't know the statistics for these forums, but somehow, I doubt 2GiB of bandwidth a month is going to cut it

Yeah, me and patrickp are good for that kind of thing. Hell... we might even be able to provide a little help every once in a while... XD Starting from scratch sounds... tedious. I think that, despite how crappy proboards may be, many of us have grown used to it...

And we are not exactly bustling with new posts everyday. So, a gut feeling would say that it's enough, but of course, I can't say for sure. I have never actually monitored bw usage of any kind of forums, so in a way proboards are the safe choice. Just thought I'd mention it.

I working to setup hosting with AON servers that would give me a total of 30 GB of bandwidth. So if this plan does move forward, I wouldn't mind being a plan B.

Well, considering that 2gb might be too little, you should probably be the plan A.

Either by tomorrow or Tuesday, I have the hosting ready, we just need the one key factor. Is pSX Author willing to let the forum move?

But what about all of the useful information that's already here is there a way to rebuild everything on another forum (besides all of the stickied info)? I'm all for it though, it would be great to have more flexibility in the forum.
Plus what about the top posters here? They won't be too happy that they have to be "regular" members again ;D.

::Sigh:: ... Me and patrickp won't be *too* upset... XD
To me, it makes little difference (as it wouldn't to anybody here except the admins), so... my only concern would be all the stickied info. Transfer/retype that, and we're good to go. Hell... I'll even help re-type it all. Just give the word.

But what about all of the useful information that's already here is there a way to rebuild everything on another forum (besides all of the stickied info)? Full database transfer from proboards to any other forum software is out of the question (proboards won't give their databases out to anyone), but stickies and such are easy to copy/paste over. I kind of said that in m first post. Well If we move, they could get a special group or something. Pssh, special group. Active members will get their post count back in no time. ;D So, we'll just wait for a word from Author.

How could I have missed that? Sorry . To me, it makes little difference (as it wouldn't to anybody here except the admins), so... my only concern would be all the stickied info. Transfer/retype that, and we're good to go. Hell... I'll even help re-type it all. Just give the word. There are threads like the request threads that might come in handy later on if pSX Author decides that he wants to go in them for some requests that he might have wanted to implement later on. They would be good to have for archival purposes. I dunno though, I personally don't know if I want to recreate those threads myself. I'll give you the word to do that .
