one of the best around, ive got to say its better then epsx and pcsx because of the no mess no hassel (i was confused with pcsx at first but i got use to it anyhow) this plays almost all of my psx games perfectly verry good! ;D ;D ;D Hope you don't mind my changing the name of this thread, kevkid, but an interesting discussion has grown up around it! - patrickp

I say that I'm amazed by the blazing speed and accuracy of this playstation emulator, the only reason why I have to stick with ePSXe is due its movie recording capabilities through the peopssoft gpu graphic plugin, looks like the only alternative for recording with pSX is not free (FRAPS), I even tried recording in Linux with ffmpeg x11grab and it didnt work for me.

I've had good results in Linux (Gutsy) with gvidcap, dissociative. Don't go for xvidcap, even though versions are more recent: it doesn't seem able to handle 3D/OpenGL recording.

Hi,
I am currently working on movie recording and AVI capture in pSX so hopefully that will be available in the next version.
Thanks, pSX Author

Yes, hopefully, although its more difficult in Linux due to the lack of a coherent video subsystem. I'll probably use something like ffdshow under Linux.

I always found gvidcap to work pretty well, pA, although the more recent versions known as xvidcap don't seem to be able to capture OpenGL video.
Can email you a .deb of 1.1.3 if you want.

I totally agree, it's THE best PSX-emulator on the planet, an awesome accomplishment! My only reason to use other emulators for certain racing games is the missing neGcon-support in pSX which makes me especially sad since this is the only emulator besides ssspsx i've tried that seems to have absolutely no timing problems at all with games like Wipeout and Wipeout XL/2097.

Hi, I am currently working on movie recording and AVI capture in pSX so hopefully that will be available in the next version. wow, that's going to be very cool. Lots of nice videos will pop up on youtube and all around.. This reminds me of a cool feature that MAME has. Have you considered doing input recording/playback as well? Then you could watch a replay of someone playing through a game with the actual game running. It beats watching a video..it's more like watching someone actually playing the game right there with you.

That'd be even cooler, indeed... not that pSX Author's current intentions aren't good enough.

Can email you a .deb of 1.1.3 if you want. this can be my opinion but I think that the best way to implement movie recording should be to pipe the video output to a encoder program such as ffmpeg or mencoder just as zsnes does, I hope that pSXAuthor wouldnt go the way that the peopssoft's gpu developers took, they only made movie recording available through the vfw system and the movie recording feature in the linux port of this plugin was left aside

pSX Author has already stated that he's using something like ffdshow (well, there isn't any ffdshow for Linux, so the largest possibility left would be ffmpeg). Regarding input recording, I agree that it would be awesome, but wouldn't it also be dependent on timing? If the recorder's system is faster/slower than the viewer's system, I'd imagine it would go off sync

In a perfect world, if the playback system was slower, the inputs would therefore also be processed slower. It would be no different than if you were playing the game yourself.
The timing should be derived from somewhere within the emulation of the PlayStation and not be dependent on the host PC.

If only the input would be recorded it would go out of sync real fast.
Let's take FF7's random encounter for example, the battles won't be at the same spots. The characters would be "fighting" when there are no battles and "walking around" during battles.
