Let me see... it's coming... mmmph... no, the clouds are too thick... exhaustion setting in... maybe there's another way... Er, zarcos, perhaps you could tell us just how we're supposed to know just what your settings are? Not to mention the information Ultima asked for... <sigh>

It seems you don't have any reminiscence of the Great Powers anymore, my Lord -- you're not even able to guess other users' settings...

Depressing, ain't it? I could have inflicted boils on him, as well. Now I can't even raise a pimple...

Testing under pSX 1.10, P4 1.6GHz, and 512MB RAM, running the same exact game directly from my CD, it has yet to stutter The game's running like silk, a constant 60FPS.

hi. I am new to this forum but I've been trying this emulator since some time ago. I came across that problem too ... solved it by disabling frame skipping. hope it works for you too.
PS. Great emulator by the way !

Disabling Frame Skipping is more likely to slow a game down, forgotten. Basically, enabling that option allows the emulator to miss out frames, thus reducing the amount of information it has to process and speeding up the rate the game can play at. What operating system are you using, zarcos? TBH, as Ultima says, a computer like yours should run Final Fantasy without problems; certainly under Windows 2000 or XP. Perhaps you have a lot of stuff running in the background? You probably don't have a particularly good videocard, as it would appear to be an 8MB integrated one. However, that shouldn't really make much difference as long as chipset drivers, videocard drivers (often included in the chipset drivers for an integrated card) and DirectX are correctly installed and reasonably up-to-date. Try looking in Device Manager (right-click on My Computer, and click Properties. Then, in Windows 98 or, I think, Windows ME, just click the Device Manager tab, in Windows 2000 or XP click the Hardware tab and the Device Manager button) and see if there are any problems showing with any devices. It would help if you could give us more information about your system than just '1.66GHz, 504MB RAM,' since it's almost certainly your PC, or what you have running on it that's the source of the problem. Try going to OldVersion.com and downloading and installing Everest Home Edition; that will give you detailed information about your system. And, as Ultima points out, you should also try upgrading to pSX v1.10.

I know patrick, but it was happening with my computer specifically in FF8 ( 3500+ AM2, x1800GTO ). I don't need frame skipping, so I tried to disable it and no more problems. Maybe it works for him too

I agree with the Forgotten. SInce Zarcos is complaining about lagging, maybe disabling frameskip helps. FOr some reason, if I set frameskip to ON on my PC, the emu lags like hell. Funny thing though is that when I use frameskip on my older PC, the games runs like silk (had to copy Ultima ). So maybe framesklip is made only for older PCs?!?

Meh... I've tried playing FFVIII on my 1.0 GHz, 512 MB RAM computer using my 8 MB intel integrated piece of crap. The game runs great for me with no lag anyplace, but turning on frameskipping... causes some random lags, especially on the more extensive parts. I'm thinking that maybe... the threshold for frameskipping to kick in might be off a little bit. Like... maybe it kicks in when the emulator can only do, say, 70 fps, for example. Not too sure, but thought I'd add my results/thoughts here, just for good measure.

Heh after throttling my CPU down to 970MHz, the intro FMV was pretty slow, and jittery on the transitions, even with frame skipping.

That's odd. Maybe it's my RAM (I have SDRAM, which is pretty good for speed), or maybe I had less CPU processes. Or possibly... just different settings. I tested it in full screen at 640x480 with bilinear filtering on, VSync on, sound settings default, and priority set to High, running the game from a mounted ccd/img/sub image that I just made specifically for this testing (I needed to make a new rip anyway, as my old rip was bin/cue). These are, of course, my optimal settings for that machine... a good balance of quality and speed.
