Use the switch -r . I had the same problem as well and with -r it seems to be fully playable edit: You should better mount your image or use the cd for this game. There were some other freezing-problems with xenogears with an image being used in the past. ( at least if I remember right )

noshganirja, you clearly haven't read Things to Remember when Posting Reports prominently displayed above this and every other page in the forum, as you've provided virtually none of the required information.
It's hard to help people who don't tell us what's wrong. Without more information, it's difficult to say more than kiru has. There were problems in past versions with Xenogears, particularly with playing directly from images, which is why kiru advised you to play from an original CD or a mounted image. The -r switch is useful in many situations, but I don't recall it having had much effect on this game, myself.
What images are you using? You should be aware that, due to the non-standard format of Playstation CDs, you have to be careful about ripping them; a lot of rippers don't seem up to it.

kiru: thank you I will try this -r I was playing before with the image mounted and after that I first had this problem I tried with cd-image directly, I will burn it if it can help...
patrickp: sorry for missing information when I come back home tonight I'll look for them. I'm using images from the internet, I will provide more details on sunday.

Mounting the image is just fine as well. I didn´t finished this game on psx yet, but I have played at least around 25hours with an mounted image and with -r. (and no problems so far at all *g)

I thought as much; I just tried playing Xenogears (SLUS-00664GH/00669GH) in pSX 1.11 - directly from an image - and it seems to play fine. None of the previous issues - jerky (very) FMVs, freezing in save states and freezing going into battles on the world map - seem to be occurring any more. noshganirja: as long as you have good images and you're running v1.11, the game should play fine, regardless of whether you're playing from CDs, mounted images or directly from images. The -r switch shouldn't make any difference, although keep it in mind - it makes all the difference with some games. kiru: if you're playing from a mounted image (or even an image directly in v1.11) the game should play fine anyway - you shouldn't need the -r switch. When people have encountered problems with the game, the -r switch doesn't actually seem to help - I recall trying this myself a while back. Edit@noshganirja: I just noticed this: You should be aware that that illegal downloading of Playstation games, which are normally copyrighted, is _not_ supported on this forum. It's dumb, too - you often get faulty images, and it's not as if Playstation games are hard to get - excepting for a few rare and sought-after games, most are easy to find and cheap on ebay. In most places in the US, from what American based forum members say, there are dealers selling games for literally just a few dollars. It's not possible to support illegally downloaded games, either - apart from our not wishing to support illegal activities, problems with a downloaded image are as likely to be caused by faults in the image as any other reason. For the same reason, game reports made for downloaded games are useless, since there's no way to tell the provenance of the image.

Yeah, I play with an mounted image but I´m playing with psx 1.9 anyway. There is always a chance that this has been fixed, but noshganirja discribed exactly the fmv-problem I had as well. Hmm, well at least it works fine for me, so I won´t complain *g (and hopefully this switch will help noshganirja as well)

Why not give version 1.11 a try, kiru? As I say, I find it runs Xenogears fine, even directly from an image. There's also the very nice (albeit cosmetic) improvement that pictures that don't fill the screen are now centred rather than pushed to the side.

I think I'm too lazy. Furthermore everything runs fine with those versions I have + I don't really use the pc for playing much right now I think I will pick up 1.12 when it's finished... :>

thank you this -r worked for me this Xenogears is magnifique really... and I'm using 1.11 version, but actually I play from a quick-save from a previous version without the -r switch it was only after 1 or 2 hours of game that this problem occured... and for the image from internet I understand your point of view and agree with you even. when I'll have a more stable life it's with pleasure that I will buy the games I like to play... now my next step is to succeed to move my quick save to linux (which did not work) or to fix my memory card problem in window and move it to linux... if I don't find solution by myself or in the forum a new topic will arrive soon...

If you're playing from save states, noshganirja, that may well be the cause of your problem. Save states essentially preserve the exact state of your game at the time you make them, so playing a game on save states is more or less like playing it continuously - this means that any problem or corruption that creeps in is maintained and will probably cause more corruption, until the game finally becomes unplayable.
On the other hand, using memory card saves is recording various parameters in the progress of the game, but not the actual game itself, so each time you restart the game and reload a save, you're really starting it anew. Therefore, any little problems that might creep in will get removed by this process unless they're pretty major.
Memory card saves are much more portable, as well; the game may not be treated exactly the same in different versions of the emulator, and you may well find that if you try to play from a save state in another version , it may simply not work. On the other hand, memory card saves are usually transportable even between different emulators; the only limitation is that they are generally not portable between different version of the game - i.e. say an NTSC and a PAL version.
It's not surprising a Windows save state didn't work with Linux; the two versions, obviously, don't work the same way. I would think you do have a small chance of it being successful; the emulation cores of the Windows and Linux versions are supposed to be the same, but of course, they interact with the OS differently. I don't know how much of a save state relates entirely to the way the core handles the game and how much to other more changeable aspects. But, of course, memory card saves would be completely interchangeable.
The bottom line is, use save states during a session, but when you quit, always make a memory card save, and always start a session with one.
If you're having trouble with your memory cards, perhaps you should post that.
It's not just my point of view about downloading games. It's the official forum point of view, and you're lucky an admin hasn't noticed and issued you with an official warning - and maybe even locked the thread.

I understand, so even the fact that I had this problem from a save from a previous version does not mean it would occur with the last one. for my memory card problem it seens to be very simple, I did not format it... this time I took time to read the faq

In case anyone happens to be looking, adding the -r argument worked for me as well, v1.13 Linux x86 version on Kubuntu 10.04.
Sorry for the gravedigging.
