Is there one out that runs comercial games yet??? I remember on the site I found out about this emulator, there was a post showing an emulator playing FFX at near playable speeds...anyone know which emulator that was?
Also has anyone managed to get pSX running on vista?
Cheers

syner: well, I guess your best shot for PS2 emulation for now would be PCSX2...

Yes, PCSX2 would be your best bet. However, you'll need a pretty high end machine.

Why don't you just try it out and tell us? ummm.... undue effort? If someone can quickly say no it's alot quicker than me downloading and installing the emulator and plugins and going and hiring out a ps2 game. Someone did quickly say no so that worked quite well, much better than trying out the emulator which would have just left dissapointment Cheers guys. Another thing I'm having problems with... When I try eneter fullscreen mode in pSX, the screen just goes gray (regardless of pSX's resolution, auto adjust settings). Anyone else ran into this problem and found a fix?

I wouldn't say that installing the emu requires much effort at all. The main plugins come with the installer and config options aren't that many either. However, if you don't have a game to test with, I guess it's easier to ask.

As far as using PCSX2 to run PS2 games it works just not very fast even on a high end machine like mine (it only uses 60% of my processor max). Kingdom Hearts is the only game I have that I can even get to run at..."decent" speeds. Final Fantasy X will also run fairly well but as of 0.9.2 it crashes on me on the second FMV (still trying to figure out why when others have gotten further).
If anyone is interested in getting PCSX2 to run games like pSX then you are getting it for the wrong reason. 70% of all PS2 games will not run any faster then 10fps and 10% of those have major problems or won't run at all. The only reason you would need to get PCSX2 at this point is to help with compatibility testing and to encourage the makers to continue devolpement so that some day it will run perfectly. Of course for me the real hook was finally being able to play Kingdom Hearts after all these years. I might even be able to play the entire game in PCSX2 with as well as it's running (even though it only runs at full speed 60% of the time).

And, of course, the other conceptual difference between PCSX2 and pSX must be that PCSX2, being a plugin-based emulator, will inevitably become focused around enhancement once it gets to the point of running games satisfactorily, unlike pSX's emphasis on accuracy.

The real world will never know how a PlayStation 2 actually worked. Two thumbs up for pSX - speed and accuracy at the same time, the way emulators should be. Let's hope someone from the Nintendo 64 emulation team can do a similar thing. A Nintendo 64 driver is actually in MESS, however limited to the strict emulation policy under MAME, it suffers from a lack of speed, and is very preliminary at this stage.

I'm getting very worry about PCSX2 people now. Sony people might be watching.
