Thanks! - Speed should not really be a problem unless you have a very slow computer - there is usually plenty of CPU power left over to decompress the sectors. (It uses zlib for compression which is quite fast).
Most of the games I have played with this emu have been from .cdz images... even my laptop can manage this!

It is the first time i see this compression method for cd images, tried even to do some research on it. Did you create the utility alos? If yes cudos again!! I was just thinking it would be incredible to be able to run compressed images, even did a search to see if there was someway to use daemon tool or any other software to load compressed images...but hey guess you came with the perfect solution... cdz format !! thanks again!!!

Yeah - its my own util - there is another compressed format though called CHD - I didn't know about it until recently though. I'll probably try to support this too.

Your utility will catch on fast thats for sure!! Compression utility that drops image size 30%-40% is sure to make a big splash...heck i already wish every other emu auther woukd support this compression method... would make it a lot easier to make a cd compilations !! Anyway keep up the great work really appreciated!!

Compression utility that drops image size 30%-40% is sure to make a big splash AFAIK Mooby's CDR plugin had support for zlib compressed images for a while. Seen any big splashes? Also, is there a way to change the compression level? My Threads of Fate image goes down from 370 to 240 MB when I cdz it, but Winrar can shrink it up to 120 MB. Or would that up the decompression requirements also?

Knurek: yeah it has to trade compression for ability to access the sectors randomly.
With a rar file you'd have to decompress the whole thing to access a sector (or at least everything up to that sector).
The way CDZ works is that it compresses the sectors in "bunches" that are not too big (I think it does 16 sectors at a time). This way it doesn't have to decompress too much to access a single sector.
So you won't get as good compression, but its better then nothing!
