Yeah, but that's what people would say about XP in comparison to w2k or win98... but I know for a fact *that* situation is wrong. On both of my computers (this one being only a year old), w2k runs a *lot* faster than XP. I disagree. On my older machine fresh 2k versus fresh xp was an instant victory for xp. Even after using xp for some time (eg, collecting crap in registry and all kinds of bg processes) it still ran moderately faster than 2k. Go figure. I personally have faith in Vista. My current rig could run it (I haven't checked the requirements, but I'm assuming) but I'm in the process of building a new one. Just today I got a new chassis which I'm planning to fill with some very nice hardware. From my current machine I'm probably only going to transfer harddrives and Audigy 4 Pro over to the new one. Maybe ram as well, depending on my monetary situation. My current ram, though plenty, is a bit on the slow side. Athlon XP 2400+, 2ghz AsRock k7s8x mobo 1,5gb Kingstom Value RAM Geforce 6600GT 128 Audigy 4 Pro Western Digital Caviar SE, 320GB, IDE Maxtor DiamondMAx Plus 9, 120GB, IDE Win XP, SP2

Desktop PC spec:
Pentium 4 (1.8ghz) MSI P4MAM-V (VIA P4266A+8235 Chipset) Motherboard Kingston 1GB DDR266 PC2100 RAM Windows XP Pro SP2 NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 (64MB RAM) Maxtor (6Y120L0?) 120GB IDE
This setup plays nearly every game at full speed. The only exception (I think) is Street Fighter EX 2 Plus.

My specs: Intel® Pentium® M Processor 735 (1.7GHz, 400MHz FSB, L1 Cache 32KB/32KB, L2 Cache 2MB) 512MB PC2700 DDR RAM 60 GB internal HDD (Model Unknown) Windows® XP Tablet Edition 2005 SuperMulti Recorder Read:CD-ROM (24x), CD-R (24x), CD-RW (10x), DVD-ROM (8x), DVD-R (8x), DVD-RW (4x), DVD+R (8x), DVD+RW (4x), DVD-RAM (3x) Intel Extreme Graphics 2, 16MB-64MB (DVMA) shared video memory Analog Devices, Inc. AD1981D Software Sound 16-bit stereo; Built-in stereo speakers, Direct 3D Sound, DirectSound, DirectMusic, MIDI(playback). Ports: Secure Digital Card Slot (SDIO), 3 USB 2.0, RJ11, RJ45, IEEE1394, , external microphone port, headphone port, RGB, S-Video Out. Above: Works like a dream, its just my laptop starts heating if I play for extended hours. I tried using pSX on lower end systems and so for this works: Intel Pentium III processor 996 MHz 128MB RAM Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 Maxtor DiamonMax 120GB 7200RPM HDD Seagate 60GB (Model Unknown) HDD Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller (Currently on 16 Bit) 32MB [Intergrated] Creative Sounblaster (Intergrated SoundChip) Lite-On DL DVD+-R x16 Drive Above works fine quite well, gets a bit slow on frames that move too much, otherwise very playable. For versions 1.5 and up (versions under 1.5 haven't tested). Later I'm going to try it on a lower system. Edit:Acer TravelMate 521iT Intel Celeron processor 596 MHz 128 MB of RAM 4.02 GB HDD (Currently on NTFS) ATi RAGE Mobility (ACER) 8MB RAM (Resolution 800 x 600 x 60 hertz) ALi Audio Accelerator WDM (Motherboard sound card) LG CD-ROM CRN-8241B (24x Read Speed) 2 USB 1.1 ports (for PSone USB controller) Windows XP Professional (SP1) Upgraded from Windows 98 The Acer specs above can play the pSX 1.5 and above (versions under 1.5 haven't tested). It gets choppy, so using these specs aren't recommeded. And its a Laptop too. However it plays using the CVGS emulator quite fine.

Desktop (PowerSpec 1410) - Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.70GHz - 640 MB DDR SDRAM - NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro | NetMeeting driver | RDPDD Chained DD ^ NOTE: It's a 16 MB card - the 64 is just the model * XP SP2
Runs pSX 1.8 great, compatibility issues aside.

Has anybody tested pSX on a Windows 95 machine? I'm sure it would work, but would Win95 need any of it's service packs first, or will it run on the original version? I don't have Win95 anymore to test it on...

afaik it won't work on Win95 because DirectX9 only supports Win98... if you can get DX9 to work on it then it should work though.

Ahh... so probably not, then. I highly doubt that I'll be able to get DX9 to work on Win95 if Microsoft can't/won't do it... XD
Thanks for the info, though. I think that pretty much answers my questions about the minimum system requirements ::goes to finish editing the page::

So I updated a part of my machine about a week ago or so, and pSX works very well. No conflicting hardware or whatever.
Athlon 64 3800+, Venice, 2.4 Ghz Asustek A8N5X Mobo 1,5gb Kingstom Value RAM, 333Mhz (I think) Geforce 7600GT PCI-E 256M LG GSA-H10N DVD toaster Audigy 4 Pro Maxtor DiamondMAx Plus 9, 120GB, IDE Western Digital Caviar SE, 320GB, IDE Win XP, SP2
Had to even replace the DVD toaster, the old Lite-On was starting to die. Left from my old machine is the ram, the two harddrives and Audigy 4.

- Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.93GHz - RAM: 512 MB PC2-3200 DDR2 - Video: ATI Radeon 9250 PCI (256 MB) - Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 - OS: Windows XP Pro - SP2 - Input Device: Super Joy Box - Connects my Sony PSone DualShock controller
It ran pSX smoothly before. Now it runs Project64 smoothly, even while playing Goldeneye or Perfect Dark multiplayer... ;D
@mika: Just noticed... are you a Knight Rider fan? I do love Knight Rider...

ASUS P5P800SE motherboard 2x 512 MB PC3200 DDR RAM in dual channel mode Pentium 4 model 630 3.0GHz - 800MHz FSB, HT Geforce 6800GT AGPx8 Soundblaster Audigy 2 ES
Zalman coolers on CPU and video card, plus two case fans. PSU is a Fortron/Source model FSP400-60GLN.
Everything is low-noise.
I need to buy a bigger case. The PSU is sitting on top of the one I have now, because the Zalman CPU cooler is too big. Nice thing is, the PSU fan sends a comfortable cool breeze towards my crotch. ;D
I've got two spacy harddrives, a DVD burner and a CDRW drive. A USB adapter for two Playstation gamepads from play.com. A Gameport adapter for Atari standard joysticks from STC Rotterdam. Logitech Wireless USB mouse and keyboard. The drivers have a tendency to unload in the middle of playing FPS games causing the whole thing to crash. I think it's because the USB controller is sharing its IRQ with the video card. I'll probably have to disable ACPI and reinstall to fix that.
Otherwise I'm really happy with everything.
