What currently stops it from working? afaik it should act like a regular analog joystick (you might need to centre the controls to get the config dialog to work properly though).
Or was there a proper steering wheel controller type for Playstation? (ie. one that doesn't just emulate dualshock).

There's also the JogCon, which seems to use a different protocol as well since it has some force feedback-- according to wikipedia, the JogCon also had a secondary form in Japan as the "retro controller" used with Puchi Carat. Also, Sony did put out a PS1 Mouse that was supported by about 10 games or so.
So, in total, unsupported devices include the NegCon, JogCon/Retro Controller, Flight Stick, PSX Mouse, and GunCon.
Anything I'm missing?

GunCon is already supported... (when you select it you will see a crosshair which can be controlled by the mouse).

My bad. I apologize for that; I made an incorrect assumption on that one, and probably missed the information in the manual.
Wish I could find technical information on the others for you, though.
