This has been requested before, and has been recently requested by vesper8 (who put it in the wrong place)... and I'm expanding on it and seconding it.
The ability to map the shortcut keys to the controller, such as Fast Forward, Screenshot, etc. If nothing else, just being able to map those two commands would be enough, cuz I'm not seeing those other commands being very likely to be mapped to a controller key. I don't know about the rest of you, but I know that in all my other console's emulators, I have the Fast Forward command mapped to R2 and screenshot mapped to L2. Very useful.

Don't forget savestates. That would be very useful if it could be mapped especially when you're sitting far away from your computer.

Very true... I used to map savestates to my controller... and then I had to stop, cuz of problems. You see, I always mapped them to L3 and R3, but... a bad habit I picked up back in my old PS1 days, is when I'm just idly sitting there, like during a cutscene, I'll rapidly press on L3 and R3 just because (well... more because I'm always a little hyper, always moving *some* part of my body...). And so... even though I'd try to make sure I didn't do that while playing on my emulators, occasionally that'd slip my mind and I'd do it... imagine that problem. So now I don't map anything to L3 and R3 (except on pSX, where of course all the keys are properly mapped on my PSOne controller).
But yes, definitely the savestate functions need to be customizable, cuz at the very least, I'd map the first savestate slot to save with F2 and load with F4...
